I don't have much to update since getting it running, but for those of you watching this to see how it goes, the people that get their car driving 'within minutes' must have a few genes that I was born without or they had another guy with a similar setup send them a base tune. Here's how it went.
I got the car started on my own Saturday morning using a slightly modified base tune from the DIY website, but it ran really poorly. I knew it was a timing issue and eventually found the setting to tell the MS that the base timing was 10° where it was set at 4°. Switched it, turned the key and it purred like a kitten. Sweet!
Decide to rev it and it pops, spits, and bucks. Play with the fuel and timing, and it hates it even more. It'll rev to 1500 and wont really go any higher. Played with it most of the day and got nowhere, really. It is important to note that I was *NOT* using the upgraded software that has VE Analyze live which costs $59.99. (I'll expand more on that later).
That evening, I messaged a91what to see if he would mind sharing his tune with me to see how his tables were set up. In short, not only did he share his tune, but he took the time to explain the entire TunerStudio program to me over the phone and spent his sunday evening emailing me tunes back and forth. That's very cool in my book!
We still were not able to get it to where it would do more than idle well before I called it quits Sunday evening. Eventually, I convinced my wife to let me upgrade to the VE Analyze live (autotune) I haven't been able to mess with anything since, but I have another plan - I'm going to keep my AFR and VE tables where they are and use the timing table from the tune a91what sent. From there, I'll use the autotune function and see where that gets me. I feel like that way, I'll only need to mess with the timing table with the computer controlling the other table. I hope that gets me somewhere.
