hey all, its been a while since ive been hanging out in these forums, ive been busy finishing up college and starting my new job. but with my delayed presence, i come bearing gifts.... err well problems. Although my car will shut the airbag light off a few seconds after startup, it soon flashes in 5 second intervals or so and then stays on steadily after about 3 minutes or so. im wondering what could be causing this? also if there is a way to read or clear the code with my code reader... from what i gather, any non-CEL codes arent given during this procedure since the airbag light was def on and i still got the 1-1-1 code which means everything is good.
on a side note, if i am to mess with the airbags, is there a good way of draining all of the power out of the car, most importantly the air bag system so there is no chance of a spark and accidental discharge?
Thanks,
Kyle

The airbag system is totally independent of the main enging system, so if the 1-1-1 code was from running a KOEO test it has no relevance. Count the blinks and find the code on this page. To drain the power, I just disconnect the battery and wait a half-hour or so.

if the koeo text has no relavence, what blinks am i supposed to count to get an error code? i.e what test or connection will tell me the airbag trouble codes?... maybe i jsut misunderstood.

Count the blinks of the airbag light. If the airbag computer has a trouble code, it will blink the airbag light in the same type of sequence as the check engine light will blink for KOEO codes. I don't remember the exact sequence, but it's a two-digit code.

ok, so it looks like its flashing code 6-1 (61) which translates to " Intermittent or Repaired Diagnostic Monitor Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly." ...
"Possible Causes
A high resistance reading at the air bag diagnostic monitor bracket ground can be caused by:

* A poor attachment of the air bag diagnostic monitor due to loose mounting, dirt, or corrosion at the air bag diagnostic monitor bracket mounting surface(s).
* A poor reference ground at Pins 10 and 18 of the air bag diagnostic monitor Circuit 57 (BK)."

***which would bring me to my next question, where do i find the air bag diagnostic monitor? and how would i locate pins 10 and 18 on circuit 57?
thanks,
Kyle

Heh, I have the same code on my GT - I just haven't bothered to fix it yet. I agree, reset the code as described on the website I gave you earlier, and see if it comes back. In my case, it did.

The airbag computer can be found under the dash on the tranny hump = pull back the carpet by the gas pedal and look for a blue box on a aluminum bracket. It has two connectors plugged in - gray and black. Circuit 57 is likely the black connector, pins 10 and 18.
