Rear axle cover

I just bought a 2010 Mustang and this is my first post Hopefully I joined the right forum

I just got winter tires and rims put on, and noticed that the front axle has a cover on both ends, but the rear does NOT. I'm wondering if perhaps the shop accidentally knocked off the cover on the rear axle, or if that's how it is?? If you're not sure what I'm talking about, it's about 2" in diameter, comes out like a half-circle, and covers the steel end of the axle.

I'm worried that the rear axle might rust at the ends and it'll make it tough to put the summer tires back on.

Is it ok to leave the rear like that, or am I missing a cover!?

Thats normal for a solid rear axle car. No need for a cover on the rear as there is no exposed wheel bearing like the front if there was no cover.

Are those REALLY the rims you chose? They're just temporary, right?

I was a little curious about those rims myself. Then I though he's using some cheap rims for his winter tires, and saving his bling bling for the summer. Very Clever

haha, obviously temporary!! I'm assuming you don't live in Toronto... we salt the roads here (instead of dirt) and it's not good for aluminum rims. I'll stick with the black till end of February then put my 18's back on

There is actually a bolt and a bearing underneath the cover in the front. On the rear the bearing is inside the axle tube so it doesnt need any kind of cap.
