What buffer?

Hey guys, I'm wanting to get more serious about detailing. In the past I have either done it by hand, or used a orbital buffer. My car is black and is showing some scratches that I would love to get out. By hand it's too much work and the orbital just doesn't seem to do much of anything, but brighten up the paint a little.

With that said, which polisher should I get? I want one that is user friendly that I can learn with, but will work good once I have some experience.

Also, where is a good place to buy one? What pads should I get? I would like to pick it all up from the same place and be ready to try it all out once I get it.

The same goes for polishes and waxes? I have always used Meguiars and it seems to work good, but would I want to try something else?

Thanks for all the help, if anyone has any advice, let me know. I'm sure I'll have some more questions down the road.

Thanks guys.

My advice would be look at Adam's Polishes. They offer made in the USA products and have a 110% money back guarantee. They are great for the DIY'er at home and have color cordinated pads and polishes vs most other companies you have to know what cutting pads go with the correct polishes. Oh and they also have the best customer service out there as well.

As far as the polisher usually the entry level is a Porter Cable 7424XP polisher and the next step up is a Flex XC3401

+1. I use Adams polishes. Great stuff. All of their products are worth the money. I'll eventually be getting the Flex polisher. Looks like an awesome little machine.

Ill let ya know what I think of it. I have the porter cable and it was ok but it took too much time for me so that's why I took the plunge on a flex. My car is down at the moment without being so much as washed for 4 months. When I do use it maybe ill do a write up and post on here with pics of course.

So do I have the right idea of starting off with the porter then moving up to the flex down the road sometime? Or would I be okay getting the flex now?

Where do you guys buy Adams polish from?

Thanks for all the help so far!

I've heard the flex could be a great entry level polisher but I do not have any experience yet, I just washed my car today and used my porter cable to polish the exhaust up. I would do some more research into the porter cable and other machines on detailing forums. Adam's can be found at:

Autopia I believe has a forum as well and autogeek may too. Adam's is my choice due to ease of use and fantastic customer service.
