Hello everyone! I am new to this forum. I doing a T5 and 8.8 rear end swap in my 66 mustang. The 8.8 came out of an explorer. I have a question about the drive shaft. Will the stock drive shaft work or do I use the explorer driver drive shaft? Do I have to make a new one? Thanks

Measure from the pinion flange to the tailhousing of the tranny. then, measure how much the output shaft sticks out. double check to your driveshaft. if that doesn't work send your measurements to your local driveshaft shop to have one made. they aren't that expensive to have made.

Sorry, I know this is a month old. If the explorer DS is too long you can have it shortened. If it is too short, a shop can reuse the ends and add a longer shaft to make it fit. I say reuse the Explorer stuff because its the same yoke and U- joints. Obviously replace the joints.

I have reused the vintage DS/yoke with a T5 swap without any problems, justhad to shorten it. I've also swapped in an 8.8, and mine used a flange to mate the ds to the 8.8.

Yeah...went through this a lot with my foxbody 4 cyl-V8 swap. 302/351 windsor block...switching between and c4 and t5...they're different lengths. What set-up did you have? Tell the forum what you had so we can brain on where you are!
