Lost Oil Pressure!

ok,got ya,i feel stupid even asking now....lol,im around 400-425 at the moment,75hp seemed close...ill stick with the s/c plan...
I personally don't see 500hp in a streetable EFI package with only 331ci and 185 heads being possible. There are members on here with built 331's put together by some of the best in the business and they aren't making anywhere close to that number. Heck....I'm sure I'm a good 125-150hp away from it myself.

400-425hp at the crank is a very realistic estimation given your parts.

If I remember correctly, 89stang1's set up is very close to yours and he's making right around the 360hp/380 tq range at the wheels on a Mustang Dyno.

333ci 10.6 : 1 cr
Stock unmodifed 93 Cobra intakes, with a .5" spacer
70mm Accufab
30lb inj
75mm PMAS bullet
BBK cold air
AFR185 PT#1422 v2 (new style), 1.6 rockers
RNH Performance Custom Cam, hyd roller .550/.570
1.625" BBK long tubes, full exhaust 2.5"
Full Accessories

I too am running a similar set up....though I am using a lesser set of heads.

CHP Scat based 331 10.8 : 1
ported GT40X's
70mm T/B
80mm proM
30lb injectors
XE274HR
Trick Flow Track heat
BBK 1 5/8 LT's, O/R X-pipe, Borla cat back, etc, etc

No clue what the numbers are, but it's a safe bet I'm probably down 30-40hp over your out of the box AFR 185's

I wouldn't spend the $$$ on a custom cam at this point. Unless you are getting a blower grind and changing directions, that $700 can be spent elsewhere.

$700 is what you would be in it by the time you paid $400+ for a cam and another $300 on a matching spring package.

why do you feel stupid, no resason to?

your goal or something close to it is absolutely acheivable but it won't be practical as a daily driver imo because the bottom end perf will basically suck which is what i think gearhead was implying but there are some that do it.

i love s chargers and if you go that way i suggest you read up on the difference between "turbine" and "blower" trpe saystems. "blowers" are called "on demand" systems and in my experience, out perform the turbine type systems but are comparably priced.

if you want a turbine type and want ot quiet, the novi's are incredibly quiet. if you want to annoy the police and neighbors, a vortec will do that rater nicely, lol.

imo, 6 lbs is the minimum i run and imo it is not a day and night difference when it kicks in so to actually feel it kick in hard i run at leasr 9 and sometimes 12 when i can get away with it. 12 and more is wicked.

if your current springs are at the minimum pressure for a cam you are using, i would run slightly stiffer springs to accommodate the charger.

also, if you are running 3/8" rocker studs and do not plan to change to 7/16", i would consider using a rocker stud girdle.

well with 500 hp, your car would at least get a bit of attention at the cruises etc., lol.

yeah, he is definitely doing the right thing, unfortunately not everyone would.

ya for sure, even though motor seems fine,it will help with my piece of mind,he did a few motors in the car community around here, has a good name, smart to keep it that way.
so taking tranny off tonight, then he will pick it up in the next day or so,i bought an arp hardened shaft and allen key oil galley plugs, hopefully ill have it back in by next weekend.

engine got checked over,"he said" rod bearings were fine, but the thrust bearings were already getting out of spec?,hes putting in all new bearings while hes there with upgraded ones, new oil pump and arp shaft...
hoping to get it back mon.

engine is back in!,went smoothly exept i had to cut the msd shaft a bit to make it work with the new arp shaft.

Damn... I was just reading this post as my 95 got a ride home this last Sunday on a flatbed for this very problem.... heard the rockers clacking away... did a W.T.F.??? looked down and my Autometer gage read nada...:nonono:
My 331 is balanced/blueprinted with 2500 miles on it. Havent had the heart to tear into it yet. Pretty sure I did the same thing and was tooling along at 65 for a bit so I'm unsure how long I drove with pressure. All signs on the side of the road say no harm done...oil looks mint, anti looks fine.

I was pleasantly suprised a few weeks ago when I tore mine down and found that my machinist had used screw in oil galley plugs. A little extra insurance.
