Hey all,

My father got this car last summer and is looking to a few small upgrades to get the drive ability to his standards. Whatever that may be, I believe a bit more power is what he is looking for. The car is a 390 two barrel car mated to an automatic.

So far the he has dual exhaust with x pipe on it and electronic ignition. He is going to get the cylinder heads redone with newer hardened valves but no porting or anything like that. He is also wanting to get rid of the two barrel and add a four barrel with supporting intake manifold. Other than these mods listed nothing else. He just wants to keep it mostly stock.

Checking online vendors and using some online calculators; with his mostly stock setup it is calling for a 600cfm carb. We went to Auburn this past weekend and talked to a gentleman whom was selling a brand of carbs I have never heard of before. The gentleman stated for his 390, that it needed to be a 750cfm carb for his moslty stock setup; if he where to go with 600cfm it wouldn't get adequate fueling. Everything else he researched contradicts this guy. He has checked, Edlebrock, Holley, Summit, and a few others.

Anybody have valid points to either or? I know there where some 390's with four barrels around that year but do not know the cfm.

IMO for a ocean liner with exhaust and ignition, it hauls pretty well with that two barrel.

Thanks in advance for your responses.
