Build Thread The Hoopty Chronicles - New House, New garage, New Car?

Yikes, definitely not a fun situation.

I did install new U-joints and a new fuel pressure regulator this weekend, on top of washing and waxing what's left of the decent paint.

Nothing really worth taking pictures of. This thread is kind of boring while I iron out the rest of the kinks, but I assure you, go-fast goodies are on the shelf waiting. Just making sure the car is 100% healthy before upgrading power levels.

Nawww, you can set your boring reference standard by looking in on almost any of the 4 door sedan /wagon Mercury Marquis/Baby LTD/Fairmont/Cougar/Granada threads over on FEP.

Now compared to that,...You have a nail biter going on here.

@jrichker since my car doesn't have a charcoal canister or any of the emissions stuff, can I cheat by connecting the fuel tank vent line directly to the intake?
Take no notice to the metallic thump noise when engine vacuum actually causes a slight collapsing of your fuel tank walls, if not actually starting a fuel siphon as a byproduct.

I'm sure that this was an attempted slight at the all powerful b-cam but it has failed. :fuss:

Besides... B cams pull 15-20 HG at idle. :p
If I had one, it'd be installed. Ive had them in a couple cars and they make a nice thumpa-thumpa; enough so that I was occasionally asked if I "had a cam in that old fivepointoh" and then forcibly told about that one time in high school when their buddy had one.

No, not at the moment. But I did install my fan controller tonight. The instructions for adjustment weren't great, took some time to iron out on/off time. But they work, and have A/C override.

It's happening. I hate it. I also hate that when I upload from the iPad that the pics are rotated.

Dash is all back in, but I went out and bought sound deadener and then gutted the interior. I'd like this to be quiet as a morgue at cruise speeds.

Done for tonight, will finish up tomorrow and Monday if need be.

More work done. Ran well short on sound deadener. Got the floor boards and 1/2 of the trunk, some of the qtr panels behind the door. Need another 20 sf. If you plan on doing this, plan on buying 60-70 sf.

I also ran the wires for the stereo. Still waiting on the carpet to dry as I power washed it this morning, will start putting the panels and back seats in. Look for more updates tonight.

Ready for the week! Just test drove it - the Stinger Roadkill lived up to the good reviews online. I had no issues installing it. While it didn't kill as much of the road noise as id hoped, it is a night and day difference on bumps and dips. I think if I do the doors and the rest of the trunk, it will help the road noise more, but overall I'm pleased with it.

And the heater core is in. That is a huge weight off my shoulders. Still need the hoses from late model, but that's a 5 minute job.

All in all, I'd say it was a productive weekend.

Great progress man. I cannot wait to dig into my interior next year to quiet it down. I already have hearing loss and I still think it's crazy loud. I also want to find and fix as many rattles as I can. I had to to daily drive it last week and I thought I was going to go crazy.
