G”Day all, just a quick question, I have been told that my 68 J code mustang coupe is a GT. I’m not sure on how to identify it as a GT. All I can say it has a big factory tacho in the dash beside the speedo and factory A/C along with 4 wheel disc brakes and from what I’m told genuine 12 slotter mags with the two red rings on the dress rim. It also has from what I can tell the GT front etc. How do I find out if she is indeed a factory 68gt mustang… Sorry some people might think what I’m asking is silly but I’m no expert on the mustang, but I love the car so I decided to buy one… so please forgive me for my lack of knowledge…so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

There should be wiring going from the front door jamb into the door for the lights at the bottom of the door and possibly speakers ,there should be a finned aluminum grill the length of the bottom of the door ,but this is only if it has the deluxe interior .It should have wood grain dash bezel and door panels but again that is only if it has the deluxe interior There should be extra lights /fog lights mounted in the grill . There should be a toggle switch at the bottom of the dash for turning on the grill /fog lights .The gas cap should be a pop open cap with GT on the cap .Lift the back seat and there should be an extra reinforcement pan with a metal strap and two round heads that are the bolts for mounting the duel exhaust .GTs are usually front disk brakes and will have a 9 inch rear end .Unless it is from the east coast ,so you can get a Marti report, it is really hard to tell a true GT as there is no code .A deluxe interior can go both ways as it was a option for GTs and non GTs. There should also be GT or GTA badges on the front fenders back by the door .A J code can be both GT or non GT so it is really hard to tell .
Do you have any pics ?

These are the only pic's i have at the moment. However, it does have the pop out fuel cap, the extra toggle for spot lights and mounted fog lights in grille... Can't really give a huge amount of details at the moment as she is on her way home to me....will know more when she gets here in the coming week / weeks... cheers.
