Lets Talk Dot Drag Tires

nope not my bosses... i just work on it around the clock and make sure it is ready for the track. im guessing you just cant fit a 28" tire. and if thats the case id find a way to make it fit.

id honestly love to hear why turbo guys would rather have a 26" tire and what ever gearing they need vs the 28" tire and what ever gearing they need.

Being that it's an SN95, I can EASILY fit a 28" tire under the car. However its completely unnecessary. If I ever decide to turn up the boost, a larger tire MIGHT be justified. However, relevant to THIS conversation, the OP would be ill served to attempt to run on a 28" tire. His combo just doesn't have enough to it, to over-power a 26" tire.

So, either keep your posts relevant, or kindly leave the thread.

Comparing a boosted 363 to a stockish N/A 302. Pfft...

haha whatever... you are the one who brought up turbo cars and said i dont know as much as i think i do.
i'll stick with the better tire and add gear for what i need.

if im not class limited im sticking the best tire under it i can get and i'll gear accordingly

You can make a radial work on a stick car, but it takes a lot more finesse than a slick. You'll have more throw away passes on a radial than on a slick, but the car may run quicker on the radial.

What is the best 60' ET and MPH you have seen with a radial on a stick car? Im not talking about the FS guys that will adjust clutch shim between rounds if needed, those are the only guys that ive seen make it work with a radial and that doesnt really apply to 98% of the guys trying to hook a radial with a clutch.

Who pis.sed in your cheerios?
Not an overwhelming fan of people trying to tell me how to build my car, or how to set it up. I didn't ask for help because I don't have an issue. I don't have the power to trap faster than what my car is geared for. It's a foot brake car, it's a street car... and its MY car.

So unless you want to pay to add parts that I don't need... I suggest you focus on the OP, not me.

See post #s 69 & 70.

It actually started around post #56, i wasnt aware that discussing different combinations was so frowned upon...

i believe both the et streets and qtps are stiff walls.

Not 100% sure about qtp's but the gen 1 ET street bias ply tires are most definitely not a stiff sidewall.

again, sizes im looking at:
275/50-15 (26x11.5): same o.d. as my street tires and my old nittos, shouldnt have fitment issues, but 4.10s make for a lot of revs
255/60-15 (27x10.5): a little more sidewall (and looks awesome in the well), but loses an inch in width, but also shouldnt have fit issues
275/60-15 (28x11.5): dunno if i have the power to really get this tire moving yet, possible fit issues, but is basically the standard "rule" size for almost every class i'd be interested in assuming i started class racing

What material is your clutch disc made from and do you know the base pressure? You should look into Mickey Thompsons new bias ply ET street R tire in either a 26 or 28" size, it has the DOT number and is designed to be driven on the street. This is a brand new tire and i think it will have much more sidewall stability than the old ET street. On a car without much adjustability i would go with the 28" tire unless you know for a fact you will be racing on a surface that is always prepped well.

Sorry to thread jack. Do you think a 28x11.5x15 fits with a 15x10 weld w/6.5" back spacing? Running TeamZ rear springs? I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to roll the fender and probably use the hammer?

It should fit, looking at the dimensions MT's chart that tire is slightly smaller than a ET Drag 28x10.5 slick, which is what i have on my car, on a 10" 6.5 BS wheel, my inner fenders have had the sledgehammer treatment and the fenders are also rolled, the 28x10.5 is a tight fit but judging by the numbers on that link the bias ET street R should fit better.

I would never gear up and run a 28" tire for the track. Just me personally, but in doing so, you now need to adjust your street tires to make up for the gear change. A 28" race tire looks good, but a 28" street wheel/tire set up, can't say I'd like the look.

My suggestion is keep it 27" tire or less.
