Hi Guys,

I recently purchases this 1971 351w mustang for 50,000 Pesos which is about 3,400.00 USD, engine is great running smoothly, some rust on trunk and engine bay nothing that bad, I am fixing brakes and suspension i will check it out after i can properly test drive it, interiors needs to be redone completely.

I wanted to ask for your help to get the best bang for the buck on restoration prices and also I want to have some big power for street, probably 500hp -460rwhp or 500rwhp dunno but something that other cars cant beat that easy.

How much power can i take from the engine 351w can it be stroked to 408? i have seen some top end kits from edelbrock

and I have seen this 2

350-2092 $2,242.99
RPM Power Package Top End Kit
Small Block Ford 351W 1969-95
Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft & Lifters
400 HP, 412 TQ

or

350-2090 $2,959.99

RPM Power Package Top End Kit
Small Block Ford 351W 1969-95
Hydraulic Roller Camshaft (lifters not included)
E-CNC 185 Cylinder Heads
443 HP; 424 TQ

Both includes

Intake Manifold
Heads
Cams&Lifters (lifters on 2090 not included)
Timing Chain
Head & Intake Bolt Kit
Gaskets

Will both work fine for street? or 2090 is too aggresive for street.

Headers and Exhaust will be customed, Carb and Throttle I was thinking 600-650CFM, dont know which gears yet and If i go wild maybe 100 nitrous shot.

I would really appreciate if you could baby step me to get the power i want for this engine, this car will be driven as a regular car, not my daily car but regularly, I will paint in red with black and same in the interiors probably next month, also maybe later on upgrade suspension and brakes for the added power.

What you guys think?

So to answer your question. yes a 351W can be stroked to a 408 CID. Now the bad news is a fairly healthy motor with a lot of upgrades you can expect to see 450 HP @ around 5200rpm. You are looking at a cost of around $7000 with all the engine work and parts at a minimum. Now you didn't mention transmission type which depending on what you have will decrease the RWHP some more. Yeah nitrous will certainly up the HP numbers if you go that route. Rear axle ratio will also affect the off the line performance and you'll notice it more than with the increase in HP. You mentioned you want something quick so 3.50, 3.70. or 3.90 will do that. Draw back is engine rpm at freeway speeds unless you have overdrive. Lastly you'll need a carb bigger that 650 cfm for what you are wanting.

My recommendation is that before you start buying parts to do some research and match all of the components that will work well with each other. There is a lot of info on the web to help you out, If you search You Tube for "Bojo 73" you can see what I did to my 73. It is not up to the HP that you are looking at but it is quick and very streetable.

oh man I am looking at the thread you made 60 plus pages all very interesting, I have been asking this question couple of forum and i think i will probably stick with a full kit edelbrock 2090 with a 750 carb.
Old owner did swap from auto to a standard with 4 gears or do 195cc afr heads with comp cams cL35-427-8 with a victor jr manifold but i think that will be to rough no?

I will keep reading your thread

Yeah its going to idle rough. The recommended rear is 4.11 so it will really launch and its good that you have a 4 spd tranny. With that rear at freeway speeds (70 mph) you are going to be turning about 3550 rpm with 26.5" tires. What compression ratio are you planning to use?

To be honest I don't know I am just learning everything as I am looking for parts lol, I am currently on your post where you applied lizzard skin, did it really helps reduce noise? how much does it cost? I also want to change the hood to the mach 1 hood i really love that hood with the ram air

It's about $200.00 and it will do the whole interior. I also applied it to the roof interior and now if you tap on the roof it has a very solid sound. It works really well. That cam you are looking at recommends a compression ratio of 9.5 : 1 at a minimum.

I also just got done converting the motor to a functional Ram Air system. It's more of a cool factor and really doesn't do anything for performance.

ok ok didnt took in consideration the compression ratio, so what should i do to fit that kit into engine, what do i need to look after or verify first and how do i accomplish that compression?

Do you know what year that 351W is from as if it's a 69 or 70 it may have that CR already. A 71 Mustang did not come with a Windsor motor so the original motor was replaced at some point. That motor sounds pretty good for sitting that long.

Hi Barnett sorry it took a while to see your post.

I am actually on several post milking all the knowledge I can.

I know now that is a 302 according to the firing order.

So know it has changed the gameplayer first off I am thinking to stroke it 347 with forged pistons, eagle street maybe they seem good price.

I keep asking about the 2091 edelbrock kit but it seems I can put some better heads and get some more power.

My plans for this car is mostly street, some strip. Not my everyday driver.

Stroker kit
Victor junior intake
Afr 205 heads
0 deck block
ati crank damper

mill heads to 10:1 static compression
Quick fuel 800 – 860 ss style carb
3.91 gears

this will get you around 525 hp
