Hi, New 1990 Mustang LX owner here. I plan to keep my mods very basic as I live in California.

current mods:
GT40 Intake
K&N Filter
BBK Shorty headers
Off Road H pipe
2.5" Flowmaster Exhaust

Would the benefit of a MAF/TB be worth the cost with these basic bolt ons?
Also could I upgrade the MAF and TB while maintaining my stock #19 injectors?

I am still deciding long term what to do with the car, I want to keep my mods minimal for now because I may go Vortech later on and do not want to waste money if I decide to go that route.

Unless you are planning on upgrading your heads I would not spend a lot of money or start throwing parts at it.

MAF- get one from a 94-95GT. It is 70MM vs, the stock fox body at 58MM. The transfer curves are very similar and will give you additional pick up. You'll need to either fabricate or purchase the adapter ring so it fits to your stock intake tube- They are like $15-20 on Ebay.

TB -you can uses the 65MM TB from an explorer. Just corect the likeage per the tech article on Stangnet. You don't need a 70MM.

Injectors- keep the stock 19's. No need to go larger until you add the Vortech.

If you can get 93 or better octane, then bump your timing up to 14 or so for some free low end pickup.

Thanks for the advice! Ill go with those parts til I figure out which direction to go.

for the MAF, i'd just get a used 94-95 GT MAF and adapter ring and call it a day.

I wouldn't bother with a throttle body at this point. You have stock heads so there's only so much air you can cram into them. I'd hold with the GT40 intake and larger MAF and focus on something else.

If you can get a good deal on an explorer 65mm TB and modify it, go for it/.

Not enough info give.

5-spd I'm going to assume?

How many miles are on the engine? Brand new back in 1990, i'd say yes. But 25 years later, with XXX amount of miles. Hard to say. These cars were rated 225HP new, but I bet many aren't making that sort of power these days with almost 200K miles on the clock.

Basically it depends on overall condition, but the potential is there with a good driver. I'd prob estimate 14.1-14.5 personally

Stock gears and non drag tire = mid to high 14's maybe even low 15's. Now if you have a good tire, lower gears(3.55-4.10),a solid running engine, and drive it well...maybe a high 13

if you have good air, remove everthing from the trunk, run a short belt, ice down the intake, advance the timing to 14, bump up the pressure in the fron tires to about 45, lower the pressure in the stock rear tires to about 25, disconnect the front sway bar, and drive it like you stole it

Yes mid 13's if you hook
