1966 Mustang Rear Tire Rub

So lets start with i got a great deal on a set of 5 rims with brand new BFg radial t/A's ($600). 205 60 15 in front and 255 60 15 in rear. I just replaced all 4 shocks and front springs ( have not replaced rear leaf springs). Noticed the rear end of the car sits 1 inch lower than the front.

Wanted to know if I replace the leaf springs will these tires fit?

If not what size tire should I replace them with?

Seems like most people run 245 60 15 or smaller

I think 235's are the widest depending on the wheel width and backspacing. Leafs will have something to say about it as well. I had 245/60/15's on 8" wheels on my 65 coupe rear and had some rub over bumps. I switched to the 1" extended shackles which raised the rear app. 1/2", this solved my problem. I do have Eaton GT rated leaf's on the rear which lowers it some as well.

I replaced my rear leaf springs and it didn't raise the rear end much. I did use air shocks for a while. Which helped my tire rub and gave the car a nice stance, but they ride rough. I found some Monroe coil spring over shocks for the rear. I love them. They lifted the rear up and gives a nice ride. Keep the wide tires just raise the rear up. It will look mean! Just my opinion. Sooner or later air shocks or coil over shocks will cause the floor bracket to crack .I have seen a lot Mustangs that had them and they crack through the mounting hole and the access hole because it places to much weight on the bracket and the floor . With coil overs and air shocks you take the weight load off the leafs and place it on the shock bracket and floor .
 
That's something I'll have to watch out for then. I've been using air shocks or coil overs for about 10 years with no issues so far. Thanks for the heads up though.
