Fox Difference In The 93 Gt & 93 Saleen?

Hello,
My name is Nathaniel Pearce, and I have a low milage 93 Notchback LX. Just bought it and it had all the upgrades a stock 302 block can really push just about.
I'm wanting to build a 93 version Saleen from a 93 GT model. And I figured some of you would know right off what are all the things that would need to be done to the GT, performance wise. To make it as close to a Saleen model as possible. And what's the big difference between the 93 Cobra & 93 Saleen? I'm new to this Mustang deal, so I'm really wanting to know what needs to be done. Sorry if this sounds really stupid.
Thanks, Pearce

.....so do I have to be the one that tells him it does sound really stupid?

On one hand I found this reply really funny. On the other, it would still be helpful to say exactly what is stupid about the idea?

I say this mainly because I'm always telling people I work with that "there's no such thing as a stupid question". And so when they come up with really dumb questions (and they do) I need to remember it's not their fault: They didn't know, and they asked so they can learn from the answer.

Gotta give people credit for being willing to admit what they don't know so that they can learn from others do know. If I could answer this I would, but unfortunately it's not something I know about.

I read and understood his question but there are tons of differences in '93 GT's and Saleen's mechanically and physically. I didn't have time to make a lengthy post explaining and comparing the two cars.

You really don't have to, It doesn't take that much time.

I.E.

OP, if you want to know the difference between the two-three BS's that you've asked about, you may start with this simple query at your buddy Google's house: "93 Saleen Mustang"
( be sure to click on the links)

Google

Then you can read from over 10 pages of source info based on the one single line query.
After you've learned all you can from that, you can do this:

And learn some more.

Lastly, by changing one more word in the search bar you can do this:

Even after doing all the research, learning how must $$ is involved in cloning a car, in the end all you're left with is an empty wallet and a FAKE car that nobody will respect (at least maybe not to your face).

I've always held the opinion that Saleens, along with any other tuner version of a Mustang (*coughRoushcough*), are overrated.

I would recommend you simply set some goals for the car in the areas of performance, handling and looks, do a little research into what's available out there, find what you like and just modify it to your own tastes. If a Saleen body kit conforms to your tastes, go for it. However, you shouldn't feel compelled to make it mechanically similar as a comparable Saleen of the period. This would be much easier, and probably cheaper, than making a 100% Saleen clone.

I'm still waiting to see what a 93 notchback has to do with a 93 Saleen, Cobra, and GT..

Anyway.. bodykits slow cars down. That is all.

If you are talking a standard saleen (not an SC), there really aren't many differences other than the body kit and simple suspension mods. Most of it is cheap and simple.
Problem is that you must first make a GT into lx.
At this point in the game, there are real saleens out there for low enough costs to make this project pointless. You could have a real one for the same amount of money it takes to make a fake one by the time you are done.
And you would have real saleen flofits or recaros which are best looking seats in a fox and happen to be unobtainable.

It's one thing to do this when a new car is out and the tuner car costs 30k more than the GT, totally different to do with a 20 year old car where the price difference is only a few thousand bucks.

Not sure if the op is even still reading but!!!!

A saleen is basically a lx with a body kit and a handful of upgrades and body styling. A GT would be easier to make a cobra clone out of.

But it comes down to 2 things .

1. Get the car and install the body kit and wing, do this on a lx, a gt will need both bumpers and all side mouldings. Toss on a hood to complete the package , paint and go.. Oh don't forget the draglites or cobra r's.

2. Build the motor/trans/suspension as you want.

3. A third but optional step, Sell it for 70% of what you have invested.

The "OP" is MIA, just like a plethora of OP's that post one question and disappear after that.

Between the actual first reply that may have cut a little too deep, and my sarcasm ( although I did provide a bounty of useful info) most don't take well to criticism even if they "asked" for it.

On one hand, the rep of being a little too aggressive where newbs are concerned may be the lesser of two evils.
There are other forums out there that are so freakin Stepford, so afraid of messing w/ somebody for fear of upsetting them, the place has to have flashing lights to keep people from nodding off out of sheer boredom.

I'm not endorsing that we all hold hands and sing kumbya, but maybe, we should wait till somebody goes out of their way to be an ass before he gets his bitten by The Wolverines.
