Fighting a leak from bellhousing. I had a leaking main years ago on another motor, but can't recall specifics.

Oil is currently dripping from the area between the bellhousing and the backing plate. None on the backside of the backing plate, and appears as if there is an oil film inside the bellhousing.

I used loctitie on flywheel bolts. I assume this is the rear main seal, but I am baffled as to why oil is only in the bellhousing.

Is this typical of a rear main leak? No oil on backside of the motor btw.

1. Rear main seal: probably so...

2. Lower intake gasket: Nope, checked that.

3. Rear galley plug: the only one I can picture is the plug for the cam bore, is there another?

4. Loctite: that is what I have always used without a leak, but, it was on my mind because of the oil being only in the bellhousing.

So intake it from your response that you don't think it would be too out of place for the rear main leak to be totally isolated inside the bellhousing?

I just put this motor together and mine does the same. Can't really explain it because everything and I mean everything is new..... I guess I can live with it
