OK so first of I'm no expert myself. I've built one other rear end with great success but this one has me scratching my head. These are brand new ford racing 4.10 gears from late model restoration. Now the first setup I tried my pinion was way off and it vibrated like crazy so I took it apart again and played with it everything is good except now it's whining very loudly when coasting in gear or nuetral so I have several pictures of different patterns I achieved while messing with it the second time I'd like some opinions on

This is the current setup I'm running. Pinion shim is .028 and and backlash is .008

SUC53577.JPG From a post I put on another site:
Look up James Adkins instructions on gear install. A honed out used pinion bearing really helps. Do the master housing dimension exercise. Measure your old pinion head in a number of placed and do an average for the measurements. Measure your original pinion shim under the head. Measure the new pinion head in a number of places and do an average. Make the calculations as per MHD 4415. Don't worry so much about the back lash at first. Get the pinion shim size close. Try it with the original shim to see where you're at. It may take many tries. Read over this How to: 4.10 install and differential overhaul - MustangForums.com. I did my own a few times and got a perfect pattern with .008+ backlash. Your blue is hard to see the pattern. Yellow shows much better. Mine are completely quiet. Pic above.
