New Project, Feedback Wanted On Engine Swap

It's a funny thing.. the train may have taken a turn back to the basics. I've known a long time that a 347 can make up to 500/500 hp/tq, and for giggles I did some reading.

475hp 347 Stroker Ford Small Block - Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords Magazine

Instead of opening a can of worms putting a round peg in a square hole, maybe I should pursue this avenue? I've always been good at finding gently used parts at screaming deal cost, so why not a 900 dollar lrs stroker kit, some used heads and a rebuild? Go with a little smaller valve to keep torque up.. I'm thinking maybe for $3500 I can build a 400/450 bolt in engine and still keep my self respect? (Lol, I don't care)

haha @Bullitt347

I really have no experience with engine building, but this is what I was thinking. Even if you could find a full LS setup with engine, computer, trans, etc. for $2500, would you really want to divert all that money away from the '92?

I think the above engine, thrown into a light short wheelbase truck with a five speed sans the heavy 4x4 gear up front would be a pretty fun parts store hauler. Not to mention that you could put a little of the surplus away to deal with that paint job.

In all honesty I'd rather send the money toward the fox. Hard to explain, but I kind of feel a family obligation to do something with the truck, if you can understand that. And the fox, although never "finished" is close to a temporary stopping point that I had kind of planned on anyway. Lately I've definitely had too many irons in the fire, haha.

Well, it's done. I found a screaming deal on an engine today, and just could not pass it up, so I pulled the trigger. A cookie to anyone who can guess what it is and what it cost!

Did I win?

Man I wish.

No, I got a 1970's model 351w builder motor complete with everything except an oilpan.. (stopped on the way home at @hoopty5.0 's house and got an oilpan- thanks hoopty!) For wait for it...

$240. Unbelievable... I see a 393 budget stroker in the works. I think I can come in under 1200 bucks for a running engine.

Lol.. I knew that was gonna come up.

You know how when you go to that restaurant or bar that you like and get that one dish or drink that's just so dang good you never order anything else for fear of either being disappointed or missing the chance of getting something you KNOW is too good to pass on?

Yeah. That's what happened. I was thinking maybe the grilled fish and margarita, but I stuck with the gauranteed to please ribeye and 15 year old single malt.

Do you think I chose wrong?
