Progress Thread 92 Coupe Resurrection Thread

I've been busy. I finally got the rear seat material installed. It still has some "out of the box" wrinkles on it. They have mostly worked out since this pic. I'm not overly thrilled with the fitment of the material. It seems corners that are round on the factory seat seem to be made more "square" with the material. No worries. It looks a million times better than a cigarette burned and faded black cloth (my fronts are leather).

Old seats removed.

Notice the top of back portion is faded horribly.

I also rehabbed some truck panels as my car had nothing in there before.

Notice the vert piece hiding the unsightly rear seat backing brace/etc.

Very nice.... take a hair dryer and you can try and massage the wrinkles out

No elaborate updates but I've done some "housekeeping" on it the past week or so.

I was able to get some time to change the oil (It had a semi smashed Fram filter from the previous owner), reset the timing (was too high, now at 14), painted the rear "new" calipers (had the old ones painted nicely but they seized up and had to be replaced).

The only real issue I've got that I've not solved is one of my front wheel studs keeps spinning in the hub. I replaced the stud but the new one is just as bad. Once you go to torque the nut the stud spins. My only solution other than replacement is to add a couple of tack welds to the back (IF I can even get in there) to keep it from spinning.

The rear seat material has smoothed out a lot as I expected. I HOPE to be able to clay bar and wax the car tonight/tomorrow as we have two events Saturday to attend and I want it as clean as possible for them.

I finally got around to a full clay bar, meguires ultimate compound buff job and finished it off with Meguires Hi-Tech 26 yellow wax. The paint is so much smoother now and is finally free of all the black rubber dot/specs from the PO's burn outs.

Garage shot for reflections

Outside shot. It doesn't even begin to show how much better looking the car is now. The red is a lot deeper in person.

So driving the car around today. It's 98*+ out (Just hot as balls). Took the car out of work, a 1.5 mile trip (roughly 45mph) to the highway, 75 mph on the highway (ac blasting so electric fans are on). The car barely got over the 130 mark on the stock gauge. I know its stock and not reliable (The gauge) but this thing won't warm up on the hottest of days. It finally got to about 160 once I got to some stop and go. It heat soaked while I was on lunch to a whopping 180 (per gauge) and as soon as I started driving settled in at its normal 160-170 range.

To recap, 3 core LMR radiator, dual fans (LMR combo actually), adjustable fan controller (wired into ac so it works with ac on) and 180 stat. It was running way hotter before (210-220) with stock worn out stuff (new fan clutch though). And just wouldn't cool down and creep up. No it seems I've excessively overcooled the car and imagine mpg is suffering tremendously.

Should I just deal with it since it's not a daily and the motor is coming out this winter anyway or go through the hassle of swapping in a 192 stat or something? (Disclaimer, I HATE swapping stats)

Well I hit a bit of a snag. Driving around Sunday the steering got a bit tighter and tighter. About 5 blocks from home I made a turn and lost all power steering.

I put a new pump in a few months ago and flushed the system (or so I thought). Upon inspection the pump didn't loose any seals and is making a bit louder whine than normal (whined from day one of install yay). My fluid was FILTHY and almost boiling (smoking once I opened the cap). I guess there is debris in the system that is running through as when I checked everything the power steering was back but caused the wheels to be "jumpy" when turning the wheel. So I'll disassemble the lines again this evening and do another flush until I get clean fluid (maybe I rushed it last time, I honestly don't remember). I also ordered an inline filter for the return line that I'll splice in once it arrives.

How about some water beading up on the awesome wax job pics to make me like the car again lol.....

Thanks! Next up Is window tint. We have been running around in it a lot and hopefully more as a family. We have a 6 year old and a 7 month old (rear facing seat) and they are in direct sunlight in the rear. I'm thinking 35% at least which is legal here but likely will run 20% and roll the dice on the hi-po's bugging me.

I am SO GLAD I found this thread! I happen to be redoing a red auto 92 coupe as well. Would,it be ok to pm you some questions?

Also how do your quarter windows look? Mine need something... Like replace, met.

Thanks

Jesse

Well the wifey talked me into keep the car. WOOT WOOT. I've figure out another way to do the things we want to do. (involves selling a couple of guns but those are MUCH easier to replace than the fox would be).

Anyway, it lite a fire under my rear and I worked on it a bit this weekend (after attending a car show).

I pulled the lock cylinders and remove the red paint from them.

I also pulled the front/rear window trim and will be blacking it out vs it being red like the rest of the car is (why oh why). I spent a good deal of time getting the locks to work correctly again. I just need to run down a new pass side switch as it is not working correctly (locks and window both work from driver side but the pass side is sketchy).

We will be in Dallas, TX at the Gas Monkey Mustang show (Oct 10) and the coupe will be the main car at the "Save a Fox Foundation" (official sponsor) tent. I need to get on my horse and finish the little things to make it as nice a possible (Man I wish the engine and bay were done already ugh).

Well I've not made an update on this for quite some time as I did something bad.... I sold it in Oct when I found our my company was bought out and I got very nervous about layoff's etc. Well that has all calmed down now and the buddy I sold it too has given me the opportunity to buy it back.

So I'll hold out for two weeks to ensure it's the "right" thing to do and I'm not jumping back into bed with an ex just for the excitement. (lol).

If (haha, if yeah right) it gets bought back, I'll finish the gt40 build I have going on in my garage for it still. t5 swap it and have a fun cruiser.

The car now sports tinted windows and a few other goodies since leaving me. As soon as my buddy drove it away from my garage I knew it was the "one" that got away. Hopefully life blesses me again and things work out to where I get my hands back on it permanently. Oddly enough the wifey is ok with it as well.
