Well the wifey and I have been debating the upgrade for a little bit now. The final straw in the favor of the upgrade was when we confirmed to a family trip to CO/UT with a travel trailer (rented).

We had a very nicely optioned (loaded) 2013 F150 Scab FX4 with the 5.0. It tows around here as well as you expect a gas powered 1/2. It however was not going to be up to the mountains and travel trailer task (dry weight of most trailers alone over task a 1/2 at altitude). I put about 8k miles on the truck hauling cars around for myself and a few buddies in the past 2 years.

Anyway, we purchased a 2015 Ram 2500HD Cummins Crew cab 4x4 Saturday. It's a very nice truck but just a Tradesman line (Similar to XLT). We had to lose quite a bit of options to justify the jump and not be truck poor. Overall it rides very nice for a solid front axle truck and I'm impressed with the comfort and features it has. Dodge dealer was wanting to sell trucks. They paid me more for my Ford in trade than I paid 2 years ago for it and took a healthy chunk off of sticker to make the deal possible. Then they worked the back end to get the best possible interest rate. All in all I could not walk away from the deal, it was just too good to pass up.

Pics for your pleasure. Sorry they are all I've got of it for now.

Ah, this is a Ford forum. Lol, just kidding, that's awesome, I really wanted a diesel when I bought my F150, but couldn't afford it. My brother n law has an 06 Cummings, and the thing is a monster. You will have no problems pulling with that thing.

On the other hand, a coworker of mine traded his Cummings in on a new coyote f150. He and his wife pull a very nice fifth wheel about half a dozen times a year. B while I love then 5.0, I think he is going to regret his decision.

Yeah it's no ford but I'm very happy with it overall. At the end of the day the big three are very close in capabilities and all three are capable of doing work. The dodge deal was about 4-5k better than an equally equipped super duty. And gm is even worse price wise. Dodges recent press has the dealership slow and they were more than willing to make a great deal to sell the truck (they had 8-10 like hd trucks).

Gotta have a good tow rig! Suits my needs pretty well! I'm looking for a sticker that says Ford tow Rig!!!

I thought about going to the local dodge dealership just because of these reasons(bad press-slow sales). I am looking at purchasing a truck myself. I've had a couple Chrysler products in the past and was less than pleased. I'm not going to bash here but I can't bring myself to go down that rode again. Good luck and nice looking truck btw!

That's about any SUV. They just don't hold the value well at all. Luckily for me the F150 market has exploded with the new ones coming out even more expensive and helped my trade value.

At the end of the day Any new purchase off the lot loses 10k usually. Even this truck with the deal I got will be hard pressed to sell for payoff alone. Now give me a year or two and there will be a LOT of equity built back into the value etc.

Oh and I've traded enough vehicles in the past 4 years that my challenge is to keep a DD for that long. :) My wife just laughed at the idea of me keeping one that long. lol. Said the same for the fox.

Foxmustanglvr, the NTSB forced Fiat/Chrysler to buy back or offer deep discounts due to mishandled recalls etc on a few 08-12 models (other years too, just a quick recap). Most of it was for poorly handles parts availability and notifications to existing owners.

Of course you read any "forum" and you read about the bad trucks only. Rarely does anyone get on a forum to boast about their truck. Looking at the large amount of trucks on the road (any brand really) there is a very small amount that have issues, just like any other car/brand.

Pretty truck, Squeak. I love the blue. I've owned a few Chryslers and swore off of them myself.. but if I ever own another it'll be Cummins powered. Too bad they never put that engine in a ford.

Yeah It's going to spoil me even tugging a car around. My 1/2 ton had a bit of wiggle above 70 when hauling cars on crap OK grooved roads. I'm hoping I can maintain the 75 with more confidence now and not have to wonder if hwy 69 will bounce me off of the road anymore. :)

To tell you the truth @A5literMan I'm pretty disappointed and the depreciation loss that I have with this thing. Currently appraised at 37.5k and bought for about 55 at about 1 yr old. Wow dodge!
The last new dodge I bought was a 99' Durango. Had the intake gasket go out of it w/under 5k miles on it. Warranty fixed and that lasted another 8k before going out. The rear driver side power window motor burned up at about 15k miles. Had that repaired. At 19k miles the trans started slipping got that fixed and traded it in. Had it just over a year and lost 15k off sticker(almost 50%) that really stung but I hated that f'ing thing by that point. I do like the aesthetics of the new pickups and they have had some descent reviews. If I could afford a new diesel I'd be all over it. I'm looking for a 11'-14' right now(probably a GM-seems to be the best value and available at the moment around here).

I'd be set off by one as well if I had that many issues with a new one. My brother in law has a 14 3500 chevy (DRW) and it's an absolute beast. The IFS rides nice and his previous 3500 had 150k on it w/o any ill effects and I doubt many work them as hard as he does.

Very nice truck. I'd research residual and depreciated values of potential vehicle purchases prior to buying. You'd be surprised to see some are at 50% while others are more than 75%. Dodge tends to rank near the bottom along with Kia.

No offense though right? lol

Around here a Diesel truck of any brand holds considerable value. Mostly because all the 20 somethings want to turn them into "brah" trucks or mall crawlers. Cummins fanboys galore around here and they bring great money. Now Dodge cars I completely agree with, they don't hold their value worth a darn.

Diesels always retain value better. And those cummins will run forever. I have a coworker with one that has over 300k miles on it and it's never been apart. It's pretty tired though lol.

The thing is that 'right now' Dodge trucks are back on their game and can go toe to toe with either the Ford or Chevy trucks.

This is really good news for me because when I stumble upon the right deal, I'll pull the trigger regardless of brand. There's never been another time that I can recall when the HD trucks were so closely matched.

I'm waiting to hear feedback on the new Z71 HD. They're very nice as well. Someone is going to sell one or more after taking the initial soaking in 6 months.

Awesome looking truck Squeak. It's even in the color that I like. :D That motor is a beast. You'll enjoy it. hehe

I agree. The big three all have their game faces on with the HD/SD truck markets. Pick your poison and brand then run them. Yes the new ones have emissions stuff but maintain them and don't idle the truck all day long w/o getting exhaust temps up and you will see a very long and useful life out of them.
