Upr K-members The Facts From My Experience

First of all I am a bodyshop tech and I am in no way affiliated with UPR or anyone else. I am posting this due to the fact that me and a friend of mine got into it over the quality of the k members which is kinda funny since he doesn't own anything made by UPR and not to mention all the crap I read on the web. I hear and read all the time that UPR's k member quality sucks and the welds break if you run them on the street and blah blah blah. The fact is that I have been running a UPR k member somewhere around 5 years now. In those 5 years I have driven my car at least 2-3 days a week back and forth to work 20 miles each way. I work in Memphis and anyone that has been through Memphis will know that the roads just plain suck with basketball size pot holes that are pretty much unavoidable. The bottom line is after all the road abuse my k member has been through and the use of solid motor mounts it is still square and all the welds are intact and look as good as the day I bought it. Don't hesitate to go with UPR.

Ask this guy he didn't break any welds on anything when the car came Down . That hit is much harder then any "street driving " . That's just my .02cents .

While that is an awesome picture, it makes me cringe to think about the landing. Ouch!

The headers were dinged up a little but that's about it...
UPR's pan savers did the trick and left my oil pan unscaved.
As far as quality goes, I can tell you first hand that it is absolutely with out a doubt top notch. I've seen, owned and/or installed just about every mustang suspension component ever made and there is a reason that only UPR suspension will be found under my car. It's the best! It's top quality materials, top quality crafstmenship and made in America.

The owners of UPR truly care about thier products and have never disappointed in fit or function. My hat goes off to @Sharad at UPR as well, whether it tech support or sales he has you covered. Show me one other suspension company that is at as many races, trackside supporting thier customers as the guys from UPR.

We torture the parts we use... plain and simple and have never been let down. Whether it's making 1500+hp stick to the ground with a 1.19 60', dragging the bumper looking to enter orbit or taking a cruise to the liquor store I rest easy knowing that thier parts have me covered!

I haven't seen a UPR bashing thread since I joined the site 6 years ago. You still have people that are MM snobs, but I still stand by the fact that I can't afford their stuff and UPR products have treated me perfectly with my street cars. 0 issues.

You know one thing I'd like to see upr do that I'd jump all over? A k member and a arms that do change the front end geometry like mm offers to aid in road track handling. This is the one and only reason I haven't bought one yet. Maybe they should considered it? Not everyone is a straight line warrior.

I believe that @joetrainer31 had an issue with a brand new UPR k-member that either put his wheels too far forward or backward. IIRC UPR customer support worked with him through the issue and solved the problem. No company is perfect so it's important to to stand by your product when things don't go according to plan.
 
This post is not meant to inflame,derail,or in anyway bad mouth UPR.
That said, when I started looking into suspension parts I saw more negative comments about UPR than MM pieces. Even though most negative feedback was from older posts(possible changes in quality?). So I purchased mostly mm parts. I'm happy with my decision. I did pay more but have had 0 issues. I do run a UPR bumpsteer kit and it was top quality also. I haven't seen a negative review on mm. Not trying to be a "snob" as Hoopty puts it lol. Just been my experience and probably shouldn't have posted this here just wanted to state my preference/experience.

As of today I'm officially a MM snob since I just ordered my MM coil over kit. All you pay check to pay check UPR supports get out of the way! :rlaugh::stir:

I have UPR rear lower control arms on my 01' V-6 Mustang and have zero issues other than having to lube the spherical rod ends every 6 months or so to eliminate a squeak. That is not a UPR issue, it is a spherical rod end thing that would happen regardless of who made the control arm. I bought a set of UPR pan savers for my racecar and they did not fit...at all. This is, I assume, due to the fact that the K-member is a QA1 product and the pan savers are a UPR product. I had to extensively modify the pan savers to get them to work. If it had not been 8 months or so since buying them, I would have sent them back, but after that much time had gone by, I figured I would try and make them work. Below are a few of the pictures taken of the pan savers to make them work.

That's right. The UPR unit put the front tires too far fwd. I spoke to UPR and they gave me offset A arms. Although, they said it was highly unusual to have such a problem (I.e., frt wheels too fwd & scraping frt fenders).

Once we put the A arms on we saw that they caused the sway bar to hit the frt oil drain plug. Also, they caused the end links to be at a severe angle which immediately destroyed the end link bushings! We called UPR, but their "tech" had no answer for us!

Then, our tech observed that if we could lower the sway bar that it might also relieve the end link problem. We called Steeda for a 2003-2004 Cobra sway bar spacer and it did indeed kill two birds with one stone. For what its worth, Steeda said they see spacing issues like ours with UPR kits all the time.
