Anyone Else Get This Recall Notice?

problem is the company takata in japan hide the problem for years and also makes the air bags for almost every other car world wide and has to make replacements for all of them, which mean millions of air bags world wide this one is going to be a long time in getting resolved

Massive Takata Airbag Recall: Everything You Need to Know – News – Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog
Plus since there has so far been only 1 documented case of a Mustang driver that may have been injured from the airbag canister failing after deployment , we are probably not high on the priority list.

seems ford needs to join Toyota who going by a news report went and ordered something like 13.000.000 air bags from other air bag makers so they can replace the ones they need

Nice to know we are driving a car that if in an accident can be the cause of killing us. Feel real good about driving this car now.
I got it and asked service advisor at dealer i go to he said it's just an advisory that your air bag is bad.. ford doesn't know how or what they are going to do. It could be 2016 before the parts are available. Research and testing has to be done to figure out how and what they are going to do to fix the problem. So in short don't wreck your car bad enough to have air bag come out

Nice- haven't heard a word from Ford since.

I received the same letter for my 2014 5.0 GT, as a technician for Toyota we are currently replacing airbag inflators on certain models for the passenger side and recently the driver side as well. It took a long while before we got parts in stock but it normally fell under a special order part for the vehicle when the vehicle was bought in and inspected. All I can honestly say is just be as patient as possible about it, its not Ford but the actual manufacturer of the airbag that cant keep up with the demand being that they share inflators with other manufacturers.

last news I saw on tv was blaming the propellant being used was of the same type the no good radicals use to make IED's to kill and maim our service people , way to powerful for use in a air bag.
as to waiting this is going to be a very long wait since ford has not joined Toyota and Honda by going to other companies to have the needed parts made.

Don't hold your breath. They have a legal obligation to tell you that you are driving with a frag grenade in the glove box, but they will maintain that they don't have enough service parts until the car dies.

I just purchased an 08 Mustang a couple days ago. I just looked up the VIN and see this same recall, "RECALL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE."

So has anyone's vehicle been remedied?

I imagine there are a ton of cars out on the road with this issue. Are you just supposed to call a local dealer and cross your fingers they have the parts to fix it?

Yeah I got it supposedly it's a temporary part I'm not sure though. I've heard it's a temporary fix and also a permanent fix

I got the letter about 3 weeks ago .Took the 2005 in last week ,they said they had the new part .Got a call about an hour later that they would have to order it ,come and get your car or leave it here .I took it home . Friday they call and said the part is in ,bring it in Monday ...today .A couple of hours later they call and say they ordered the wrong part
Come and get it and we will call when the correct part arrives:chair:  Now i am wondering if they actually have the new part  They did give me a unlimited time ,free oil change card for my troubles .

Yeah, about this.

None of the car manufacturers do things like this. Not even Suzuki, which left the US market five years ago. Suzuki is replacing air bag system components in the entire lineup right now, Ford has the airbag recalls in the Ranger and Mustang ongoing, VW has their own Takata airbag recall, as does Mitsubishi, and Hyundai is even doing a recall on Sonata engines. (I work for a dealership that sells/services all five makes, recalls alone have both our Ford and import shops busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest). Hell, if any of you has an old Ford that never got the inline fuse added to the cruise switch, some dealers still have THOSE in stock.

They don't do things like this because the risk of a crippling lawsuit is too great in this day and age. GM's lawyers will be busy with ignition switch lawsuits for the next decade or more, and Chrysler's about to have a legal :poo:storm upon them over the worst shifter design in history in spite of having a recall on it after it led to numerous injuries and the death of a Hollywood actor.

If your local dealer can't be bothered to get the part in for you, that's different, that's not Ford. In that case, call Ford directly or call a different dealer.

I just had my car in for a battery and harness replacement. I asked the service advisor about the inflator recall, he said that they are starting to get small quantity in on special orders. But this is like when Toyota first started with this recall we where getting inflators on a special order basis and only a limited few so that there can be enough going to all the dealers withing the distribution center. But as supply started building up then it was an item normally kept in stock, until the demand was higher than supply

Horse sence, you are completely correct in your summary of your experience. Something is not right and they are not being up front. Your experience with your dealership is very important because I get the feeling a lot of us are going to go through the same thing. Especially since I noticed a few oddities myself:

I got the letter from Ford last week while I was in China. I got back Wednesday night and called my dealership Thursday afternoon to have the part ordered.

I got a voicemail Friday morning- less than 12 hours- from my dealership telling me that they have the part. I was extremely hung over from drinking about 500ml of vodka the night before (man it's good to be home), so needless to say... I missed that phone call since I slept most of all of Friday.

I got another voicemail Saturday morning from my dealership telling me that they have the part. This time, I had the ringer off, so I didn't answer that time either.

I called the dealership this morning and scheduled a date to bring my car in for the replacement. It will apparently only take an hour to fix. That is quicker than any other TSB or install they have ever done for me (well, not quicker than re-setting my throttle position after flywheel replacement... 15 minutes to do that... after I set the tune back to stock).

As an engineer who works with OEMs (including Ford) every day, it sounds like Ford doesn't know their exposure, so they are having people bring their cars in so they can identify which cars do and don't need a new inflator. If you need a new inflator (after they pull the steering wheel apart and identify your current inflator with information given to them by Ford), they will tell you "Sorry, we ordered the wrong part- please bring it back when we figure out which part it is".

If you don't need a new inflator, they will say "Okay- job all done!".
