hello,

I'm looking for different gear ratio options for the Super 8.8 in the S550 Mustangs. I'm finding 3.15, 3.31, 3.55 and 3.73. Are there other options available? I know this is odd but looking for 3.27s for a 1/2 mile event. We're thinking 3.31 will force us into 5th at the end. A 3.27 would let us run out through 4 th gear longer. Any suggestions?

Considering 5th gear in these cars is 1:1 (assuming you have a manual) is that a bad thing?

Transmission ratios for S550 as far as I'm aware:
Stock GT MT-82 ratios:
  • 3.66
  • 2.43
  • 1.69
  • 1.32
  • 1.00
  • 0.65
Stock V6 & I4 MT-82 ratios:
  • 4.24
  • 2.54
  • 1.66
  • 1.24
  • 1.00
  • 0.70
Stock GT and V6 Auto ratios:
  • 4.17
  • 2.34
  • 1.52
  • 1.14
  • 0.87
  • 0.69

Gotcha, You're pretty much stuck with the gear ratios you mentioned unless you start looking at the G force 9" housing for the 2015 subframe, but I think that's around 5k$

Right, that's what I've been seeing for the 9" prices. We're looking to do an economical alternative and we think the Super 8.8 can handle the job, if not better, and for less out of pocket. I was hoping Ford would continue the gear ratios for the 9" and 8.8 in this new Super 8.8. I think eventually it will trickle into the market as the demand increases.
I suppose production 3.31 with a taller tire would wind us down some. Will continue to monitor for new gear ratio offerings. Thank you for the responses.

Hey, I actually have 3.27 gears in my turbo fox. I know that gear set was available at one time for an 8.8. I know that rear end is irs, but the diff is the same, right?

Completely different differential. The cases are actually different depending on auto or stick and depending on the ratio. Auto's have an aluminum housing while stick cars have a cast iron housing. The 3.15 gear ratio differential is also not interchangeable with 3.31/3.55/3.73 ratios. This new IRS 8.8 is being called the "Super" 8.8 and the parts while you would think are interchangeable are certainly not
