Build Thread Want To Blow 5 Years And $50k On A Foxbody? Step By Step Instructions Inside!

It's actually a textured paint. Looks a little more 'on purpose' in person, or probably in more natural light. I'm still up in the air if I really like it more than just a simple satin black chassis paint though.
I'm just saying that my keen, overly critical, eye can see the mandrel bend marks at the bend where the seat belt crosses the bar. It's such a shame to have beautifully welded tig joints, and then have those Quasimoto looking gouges fouling up the pictures....:runaway:

Stop using a 50MP camera, and start using your 8MP Iphone Scott,...your pics will look waaaay better.

To people w/ keen, overly critical eyes.

That see sht that doesn't matter.

To anybody.

Except you.

@RacEoHolic330 cannot respond at the moment. Because of Mike, :notnice: he's back on the street corner. :nonono:

You and those pesky laser eyes, Mike. Ya got me. I saw those same mandrel marks, and it got the 'eff that, I'll deal with it later treatment'.

It's a good thing you haven't seen the full resolution picture before Photobucket killed all the clarity.

I haven't posted an interior shot of the car since the new seats went in, or since I gave the door bars the 'I'm sick of climbing over these damn things' treatment. The story of these seats is so incredibly long, even Mike would sigh at the idea of telling the whole ordeal. Long story short, it took 6 months to get these seats, and I probably won't be a TMI customer in the future.

The seats are in though, they look good, they're comfortable, and the driver side is full power. I'm happy.

Any concern that the door bars aren't legal now?

No, just because I don't plan on ever drag racing the car. I don't have a battery cutout or harness either.

I'm actually going to be modifying the horizontal bar across the main hoop these seats are pretty big, so they don't go back as far as I would like thanks to that bar. It will be cut out and replaced with a new one that will allow the seats to be reclined back a few more inches.

Hey Scott, tell me the details about your seats. What year are they, and is that the sport R covers or the r500's? Or something different all together.

I know it was a PITA for you, but damn I love the results. Maybe it will be different for me:scratch:?

Thanks Dave. The frames are from an 05 GT. These are basically the same seats:

The difference in mine is that mine is a custom color and I have suede stripes down the middle. The custom color is part of the long story. TMI's definition of black is different than my definition of black. The black seats I ordered were more of a charcoal color and it definitely clashed with the very black fox interior. I asked for black swatches so I could compare all the blacks they offer and pick the one I liked the best. 6 months later... I had my custom order.

The seats took about 6 hours to put together, not including the tear down of the old upholstery and the bracket modifications. Knuckle-busting work for sure. Zero fun. I think the efforts were worth it though. They are very comfortable seats.

Here's a picture after I assembled the driver side.

And then here are some shots of the mounting modifications.

So the modifications to the brackets....Are the brackets '05 brackets then?

I really like those seats so much I might try to duplicate that in my blue car. I'm a little picky about what I want in it someday, your seats are the first ones that I can really say that I want those.

Plus you wired the power seat up too. I guess this means you modified the '05 brackets. I guess for you the wiring wasn't much of a challenge. I might have to develop a love for the wire looms.

Seat PLUS foam for that price....not bad.

Yes. I didn't take many pictures during the process, but those are the stock S197 mounts the were cut off the tracks and welded back on with gussets for support.

There is a guy selling bolt-on brackets on ebay for $250, but that's a complete ripoff for something that can be done with some welding skills.

The wiring was easy. Just cut the air bag and seat belt wires out of the plug and all it needs is 12V. I used a 2 pin weatherpack connector.

One recommendation I suggest is to order non-airbag seats, even if your seats come with airbags. You can take the airbags out and the non-airbag foams will fill the void. That was my plan, but guess what... TMI sent me airbag foams by mistake. I just left the airbags in the seats because of that. I was bummed because I had some pranking plans for those airbags.

Have you ever set off an airbag Scott? Jeez! It'll scare the sht out of you. Be sure they're not takata's too....

I have, but valid point about the Takata!
Well, since you have....

I do work in a body shop, with what the normal world considers dangerous idiots, give me an idea what you want to do with them and I'll brain storm with the guys to help you refine your choices into something truly epic, yet nothing that can determine any sort of liability in a modern court of law on your part.:D

I would love to, but since TMI sent me airbag foams, those airbags are in the side bolsters of my seats. Not really interested in detonating them at this point. Hah!

Negative, sir. They are starting a wait list next week. My number one goal is to be the first on that list. I already know of half a dozen people that said they can't go, so spots will definitely open up.
Cool brother, hope you get in. I feel like I have a stake in this after reading your entire thread.
BTW, I got my pedal assembly back from the powder coating company. Looks totally btchin'! I went with a color similar to your roll bar. Hopefully like my GT stripe.
