Hello Stangnet! New member here. Been lurking for awhile and figured I'd join and say hello. Two years ago I bought my second fox. It's a 91 notch, formerly an aod car swapped to a t5. Original paint, stock motor, 96,000 miles. Current mods are 17x8 and 17x9 Pony R wheels, BBK shorty headers, off-road H pipe, Mac caback, hurst shifter, 70mm SN95 Maf, and K&N panel filter. I've been doing things here and there to improve drivability and appearance. One thing you'll notice from the pictures is that it has a luggage rack. It really bothers me and I'm dying to remove it. However I have only seen 2 other notches in my life besides mine that have a luggage rack and they were both just pictures online. Has anyone else ever seen one? Is this a rare option or something? It's coming off regardless because it would look so much nicer without it. Just figured I'd ask. I enjoy following all the build threads on here and I hope to lean a lot from you. Thanks guys!

I've seen it and removing it will be a bit of a problem.

Assuming they riveted it on. You'll have to weld up those stinking little holes, smooth it, primer and refinish.

It was just an option is all.

Take a real good look what you might be getting in to first. might be a bigger pita than you want.

Nice car btw.

I would get a clean trunk lid vs. trying to weld up all the holes in the existing trunk lid. That's what I am doing now with my car. Waiting to get the trunk lid and wing back from the painter.

I've toyed with the idea of a vert 5.0. Then I'd be rollin. With the top rolled back. So what's left of my hair can blow.

I never knew the coupe could be ordered with a luggage rack. That's a new one for me.

Has anyone in the history of the Fox Mustang ever even used the damn thing to carry luggage? How does it even work? Are there slots to pass a strap into and hold stuff on there?

We actually did, drove to Canada back in 91. Bungie cord x across a suitcase. worked great....

During my build the body shop welded the holes up, no more luggage rack, they did a great job looks perfect! No filler or anything! first we tried an aftermarket lid but those things fit like doo doo.

OP when you open the trunk are there bolt holes welded or fillered where the vert exterior hinges mount the lid to car? That would tell you if it was a lid swap or an order/dealer installed option Id think - no holes there then original to the car.....

I think it's original.

On the verts, the center bar is shorter to leave room for the 3rd brake light

The bars on his appear to be all equal. Of course, that doesn't mean someone, like myself, would have just found another bar like the two on the side and mounted that instead. Definitely check the underside for welded up holes, especially for the convertible brake light

If that was my car, I'd find a second trunk lid from another north, paint it to match, and install that...saving this lid in a safe place. If you ever go to sell it, put the original back on. That's a clean car, and with Fox mustang prices up, originality is a huge factor. That's a pretty rare, and unique option.

Thanks for the input, guys. I took a look at the underside of the deck lid and it looks pretty factory. I'll try to find another deck lid, hopefully oem. I'm nervous about an aftermarket one.

Looks factory to me, and let me point out one more time, jeez! You have a nice car.

A salvage one won't be impossible to find, though being inquisitive with yard owners helps to locate good finds (trust me on this one).

Good luck brother, be persistent.

Thanks so much for the compliment! Especially from someone with such a nice ride!

I really lucked out with it. I had been casually looking for a clean coupe for about 2 years and I was willing to go a few states away to get one in the right price range. I happened to see the local ad for this one a few days after it posted and pounced on it. Paid $4k. Couldn't be happier!

A few more pics

Nice car. I really like the 91 coupes. But i'm biased, i have one too.
My 91 coupe had a luggage rack when i bought it, i assume it was an option. I replaced the entire decklid when i had the car resprayed in the early 2000's. My luggage rack kept coming loose after a body repair in the nineties, after some waste of space tried to pry open the trunk with a crow bar.

That's a really nice coupe! You got it for 4k? Seems like a good deal! Do you have any other pictures (Under hood, interior)? Would love to see more of your car!

Thanks! I think I was at the right place at the right time and lucked out. It has a lot of little imperfections here and there but it's in really great shape for a 25 year old car in MN. I bought it in July 2014. Today I'd probably pay a lot more. More pics below. Unfortunately, it has red interior. Thankfully it's not full blown p*rno red.

Why unfortunate? It's clean!

I'd take a clean, factory original red interior over a pAinted, dyed, or dirty swapped black interior any day.

With the right mix of parts, they can look really good
