    Two 1968 Mustangs

Are the numbers matching on your dad's car? If they are it's possible Ford used a late 67 motor setup.manufactures have been know to use existing year parts.Or maybe the past owner had the 289 laying around, and the 302 that was in it was blown. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Fox Upgraded Front Brakes, Stock Rear Drums?

Like you said you can update later. I had rear drums on my 85 and 86, and it stopped fine. Besides 70 percent of your brakes are up front. Just be sure you get your rear shoes adjusted right, and you'll be fine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Compression Test

Well either way your going to probably have to replace/ rebuild engine. You can have a leak down test to verify rings vs valves, but from what you've described with the blue smoke, and loss of compression, I'm leaning towards bottom end. Do the oil in cylinder with a squirt can. Let us know what...

    Please Help

How long did your vehicle sit? If more than a year, your fuel may be old, and your ignition may be having a hard time firing off the old fuel. You also want to take a fuel pressure reading at the Schrader valve. Also replacing the fuel filter wouldn't be a bad idea. One last thing is to check...

    Compression Test

Sounds like failing piston rings, cylinders worn. How many miles? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Compression Test

The cylinder that has the 119, I'd be concerned about. Squirt a couple squirts of motor oil in that spark plug hole. Let it work in for about 5-10 minutes, then redo your test on that cylinder. If it goes up, it's your piston rings causing your drop in compression, if not it's a leaky...

    1995 Mustang, Failure To Start.

You state in your post, the engine cranks but won't start. Have you tried a shot of ether starting fluid in intake. Me I'm lazy, I want to know if it's fuel related. If it's a fuel pump or relay, it will start and die 2 seconds later. Keep us posted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Help!

Whatever it is the trans and clutch need to be pulled. Check the input shaft on trans I'd replace all clutch parts, pilot bushing, t/o bearing. Your gonna want to resurface flywheel when apart. Be sure your engine is sound also. Keep us posted what you find. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Gasket Change ! Help!

Karthief I hear you. I learned working on cars way back in the days of platform shoes, and no computers. We didn't have obd diagnostic tools to help us narrow down problems. If you were lucky enough to work at a shop or dealer, they had huge Sun diagnostic scopes. If you worked out of home, you...

    Gasket Change ! Help!

It never ceases to amaze me when I read this column, how many members, or past owners of These Mustangs , either throw on high performance parts, without knowing their compatability with the other parts, or if the computer will even accept, or adapt to them. The other thing that's amazing, is...

Drivetrain Clutch Grab Not So Well

The only way I know of to check pressure plate springs, is to use a torque wrench, and know the procedure. Years back in San Francisco where I live near. We had a clutch and brake rebuilding shop. I watched the man check the spring tension with a torque wrench and some sort of jig to hold the...

Drivetrain Clutch Grab Not So Well

Drivetrain Clutch Grab Not So Well

Chattering has been in my past experience one of three things. 1) contaminated disc/ pressure plate, from oil or overheated. 2) springs on pressure plate not tightened to even pressure. 3) flywheel not smooth, cracked. Have flywheel resurfaced or replaced, replace disc/ pressure plate. Replace...

Engine Engine Started Making This Noise. Any Ideas?

I work at lot with Ford expedition diagnosis on another forum. Same basic engines. We have had a few members that had a problem with a faulty valve lifter on their 4.6/5.4 engines. Their were two that I remember that had a valve rocker arm fail. If you hear your noise coming from intake/ head...

    Gasket Change ! Help!

White smoke when hot, your obviously mixing coolant into combustion chamber. Either way your looking at tear down. The loose rocker arms wouldn't cause white smoke. It would be noisy as hell on that side, you did not mention any noise. Also if your rockers were loose, you'd be down on power big...

86 5.0 Fox Body No Crank Issue (fusible Link/clutch Safety Switch)

The proper way to test an egr valve is with a hand pump vacuum tester. Pump it up about 10 inches or so, it should hold on guage if diaphragm is good. As long as you clean egr well, and it works and holds. Save your $75.00 for dinner. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Engine Engine Started Making This Noise. Any Ideas?

I was listening from my Iphone, but it sounds like a top end clatter. Best advice, buy a stethoscope, or use a long screwdriver. Put handle of driver to ear, run along valve covers, see if you can isolate. Also check around timing cover very carefully. If noise is up there, it's possibly cam...

    Fox Bad Engine Knock

In the words of Henry Ford, whether you think you can, or think you can't, your right! If you have basic common sense, patience, and a mechanical aptitude, theirs no reason why you can't tear down, and reassemble a small block Ford. Compared to the newer twin cam 4.6/5.4 engines, their easy. You...

    Crate Engine Question

Stay away from White performance in Tennessee. A close friend bought a small block Chevy from them recently, the motor bent a valve, shattered the valve keepers in less than 2 k miles. They wanted to charge him $1000.00 for a motor that had a full 2 year warranty. Absolute worst customer service...
