2006 168k miles 90degree difference between upper hose and bottom hose.

head gasket or thermostat?

nothing in oil no oil in coolant no steam in exhaust

if it anything like my 4.0. make sure your t stat is a good one, stick on a cooling system pressure tester . do not pump it up, just start the motor and watch the tester. if you are getting compression into the system the gauge will raise fast, from there do a compression test to find which cylinders are your problems,
mine has heads and motor done up by super sixmotor sports . my right side head cracked in the chamber between the over sized valves causing the same problem only worse since mine has a x-charger xstream bolted on
