I have to change out the gas tank, trunk floor and rear cross member on my '65 coupe (rust, collision damage), and I'd like to install a barrier between the passenger compartment/trunk floor and the tank. I'm not too impressed by Tank Armor (I don't need the car to repel 5" shells...), and there isn't really much else out there.

However, '71-'73 'Stangs had a solid floor with the tank held in with straps. I've looked at the frame dimensions for the two years, and the overall dimensions of repro trunk floors, and they look almost identically sized.

I'm not too worried about having to modify a '71 trunk floor to fit, because the car's getting the rear frame notched and mini-tubbed. I'm thinking about going with the '69, 20 gallon drop-in tank, so the depth of the floor pan is important.

Anyone have thoughts on how the '71 trunk floor would fit? The measurements for where the trunk pans level off from the arch for axle travel and the depth of the '71 pan over the fuel tank area would be really useful.

The Tank Armor nor the '71 trunk floor deal well with the fill spout, but I can figure something out for that, separately.

Measured the distance from the tail light panel to bend at the rear of in the transition pan: a little shy of 33".

It looks like the '71 floor is bent up at the edge of the '65-70 gas tank flange, instead of having the angled section. I'm thinking the '71 floor'll be a relatively simple install.

It'll be a couple/few months out, but I'll post updates and pics. 'Cause, Ima risk it.
