Bell housing to transmission seal?

I'm ready to reassemble...is there supposed to be a seal between the bell housing and transmission? Car: 69 Mach 1, 390 engine with 4 speed manual trans. Thanks.

I have never heard of seal for either C4 or the manual, between the bell and the tranny. There were none in the early vintage units. However, if the bell bolts protrude into the tranny gear cavity, you might need to add a little RTV to seal the threads. I never had that situation in the early units, as well.

No seal bolts up tight some lock tight or RTV is a good thing
