OK, I know that the new California law that was recently passed doesn’t effect most of our cars. However I would like to get your thoughts and opinions about it and how it effects the classic car community. For me it seems like a fair deal since those cars that are not effected by smog laws are not included. The only problem that I see with it is that if they could revoke the last law what says that they can’t change this new one. If I am missing something major about it voice it I want to know. I have to give a speech at school on this topic and want to know how others in the car community feel about it.

smog in california has been on a continual decrease for awhile now. The smog law is a cop out because they didnt want to adress the issue at hand.

High polluting airlines and other government/industry vehicles.

But that is how beaurocratic governments function....especially in CA. They seem concerned about VOCs and keep coming up with harsher guidelines for everything from vehicles to paints. An average large pine tree emits more VOCs in a 24 hour period than your average car does in a day but the legislators can't regulate that so they go after something else. Kinda funny to think that the tree huggers want more trees and less smog but the tree is a bigger polluter in some areas than the evil cars they loathe.

My favorite is ozone. I always laugh when we have ozone alerts here in Houston. One way to create ozone is concrete in the direct sun and lots of heat......hmmm......even if every car stayed in the garage the ozone levels would be high just due to the massive infrastructure in and around the city.....but they can't and won't do anything about that.

I also read a report many years ago about that subject. Apparently carrotwood trees, which are very popular landscape trees here in So Ca,l are in the same category as smog polluters, where are the tree huggers now?

I heard they are going after cargo ships next. That initiative will last as long as international shippers will tolerate. I suppose they will just go to other ports. Seattle would probably ove it.

Basically, CA picks on the people that can't do anything about it or defend themselves. I am sure CA will cave in once their ports don't get anymore. Classic car owners, other than moving, have little recourse.
