In case you missed the latest fantastic Ford Mustang to come out of the Dearborn brain trust, then get ready to set your sights on the “Red Tails” edition 2013 Mustang GT. This past weekend held host to the annual (and amazing) EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh WI, where Ford’s engineering and design teams unveiled the Red Tails Mustang GT. The car was to be sold at the Gathering of Eagles charity auction on July 26 to one lucky (and likely affluent) bidder, with proceeds going to charitable causes.
The 2013 Red Tails Mustang GT was designed to be an honorary tribute to the sacrifices & contributions of the Tuskegee Airmen of the 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group during WW2. This squad of P-51 Mustang pilots was the first African American unit in aerial action and flew over 1,500 missions–an impressive feat for any pilot in combat. This 2013 Mustang GT is locked in with VIN 00051 to pay homage to the P-51 Mustang planes originally flown by these honorable Tuskegee Airmen, with its design cues signifying the aeronautic facets of history past. Other features include a polished aluminum one-off paint job, a glass roof, numerous interior tweaks for an aviation theme, Recaro seating, and a Ford Racing 2.3-liter twin-screw Whipple supercharger.
But that’s not all–there are even more attentive touches applied to this special edition Ford Mustang, so keep reading to get the rest of the scoop in the official Press Release from Ford.
