Front Driver Rim Rubbing.

I have a 2002 Mustang GT with 17 inch Cobra R rims (put on it before I bought it) and when I cut it deep to the right side rim rubs the sway arm. ive read some places that this might be because of a bad offset and to get small spacers. But I put it on a lift yesterday and noticed the strut looks a little different like maybe its leaning in (with weight on them) is it possible a bad strut would cause this? or should I invest in spacers.
