Headers

Hi all , I'm new to the list and this is my first post . I'm
looking for a set of black shorty headers for a 2004 Mustang .
I've found stainless steel , chrome and ceramic but no painted
ones. Would anyone one know where or does anyone know if
they even make black ones for this year model ? Thanks for any
help .

dont waste your time/money on shorties. the small gain is not worth it. Get long tubes or dont bother. SLP makes some great LTs.

Hmmm 20rwhp yeah it wasn't worth it. That's it.
LT are a better gain than Shorties sure but shorties DO show gains also.
I'd suggest getting cermaic coated ones or stainless.
The 2v mod motor is not the 5.0 your not going to find NIB headers for like 100bucks. So chalk it up.

Thanks for the quick responses . I wasn't trying to just find
cheap headers . I wanted black because I thought they would match
everything under my hood better . I was afraid the chrome would turn
blue from heat . What would be the gain from LT's compared to the shorties?

I've never actually tried a before/after dyno run with shorties but when I had the engine out of the Stang this past winter for balance/blue printing, I was thinking of going with shorties but couldn't find any info or indepenent dyno tests confirming any gains, so I didn't go that route

Is it true though that you lose low-end torque with shorties, even as you gain hp?

I'd imagine that any sort of paint on headers would burn off almost immediately. I love those pictures of engines on stands at test facilities, with the headers glowing neon orange from the heat.

There are a few people saying there were gains but Starkie, Nitro Lew and others who have tried both say there is little to gain by going with shorty headers over the stock manifolds.
