so, about 6 months ago my rear end started getting noisy, and the trac loc is slipping

when i took the cover off for inspection. i found lots of mettle shavings in gear oil, at that time i get a grate deal on a like new cobra 31spline DIF, however after thinking about it,

do i really need 31spline axles? this car will never see slicks.or track time. so i would like ur opinions please.sale the 31spline unit. and rebuild my stock DIF. or spend $300 for 31spline axles?

You will not need 31. Some of the guys on here are running in the 12's or lower with the stock rear end and axles. There is no reason to build up a DD.

Save your money for other upgrades.

If this is the case I would say "NO". If I was going to the track and running any type of sticky tire I would say yes. You can make 100's of passes on the stock rear end components or you could break on the first time. It's kinda a craps shoot.

i just posted it on craigslist, use the money for complete rebuild kit + new gears.
