I've Decided To Build A 351/400

For about 4 months....it was cheap. I saw the radiator under shepherd aluminum radiator on amazon for like 160 ish. Looked the company up online and ordered directly.

Actually looks just like my fluidyne as well and from your cost, it's $300 cheaper :)
I will inquire about it and hopefully it's still 100 bucks

has nothing to do with being a racer. I daily drive my car when it isnt snowing out... Built auto was the best decision ive ever made
Well I guess I've always heard mostly guys who absolutely love to race and go to the track say they enjoy an auto better as far as giving them the best chance to win :)

As for me and even growing up, just to hear the mustang going from gear to gear was what got me hooked. I definitely have to have a stick. Now on the other hand in traffic like mustang week at myrtle beach and bike week when I used to go, driving thru all that traffic makes you want an auto for moments like that :)

when you have enough clutch to hold the power that a stroker will make... youll be wishing you went auto.

i can still shift my own gears. be it with the shifter, or the buttons... or just toss it in OD and cruise.

I never have to worry about clutch leg issues with the 750+hp Im making. Hell, even my wife can drive it!

I feel ya buddy. I think I'll be happy with 4-450 ish :)
Hell I've been around 300 since 05 :)

Note to self - never put Auto in the Stang ...

Ive got the Mishimoto rad and dual fans, works great even w/AC on in the south[/QUOTE]
lol. I have a stock radiator I would try but will probably get the one another poster talked about earlier in the pic. $100

As previously stated, the 363 only works with an aftermarket block. The biggest advantage to a 351 block is that there is enough material to machine it for a 4 bolt, or splayed bolt main cap. If you don't do that, it's not much stronger than a 302 block.

I have a list I want you guys to tell me where I'm going to save money doing a 363 vs 400. I see where I can save possibly $1200 and only difference really being the block that I use. Sure that's a lot of money but I'd definitely have more overall power and torque with the 400. If 363 and don't have to go with a 205 cc head then that's money saved there as well

1. Dart block - 2000 vs 351 stock block- around 800 I'm thinking
2. Other internals with either block- 1-2000
3. Trans- 2100-4200 ( either A5, Tk0600 or one from Liberty gears, still same tranny though)
4. Intake - around 820
5. AFR 205- 2100
6. Cam- 200
7. AFM power pipe- 500 including Maf and filter
8. 1 3/4 Longtubes- 500
9. X pipe- 500
10. probably another $1300-1500 dollars in other miscellneous

These numbers are rounded up some.

***Sigh.....:nonono: If you actually said all of that out loud, you'd be out of breath. Two words of advice:

Periods, spell check.

It's a "Dart" block. Not a dark block (unless you paint it black)

When people say 363 they mean a Dart blocked 8.2" deck 5.0 based build. A stock 351 bored .030 (all the bigger you'd want to go) is 357.
The stroker kits available for a stock 351 come in two variations,.... that being a 393, or a 408. Bigger builds require a larger than 4.060 bore, and are better accomplished w/ a Dart block.

If you have someone who you trust emphatically,......why all the hub bub then?

In other words,....why muddy up the water w/ indecision, when your trusted "nerd gearhead" is already advising you as well?
check out post # 113 when you get time and let me know what you think.............:)

1. Dart block - 2000 vs 351 stock block- around 800 I'm thinking - DART SHP -1800 bucks - guys have made 1000-1200 with no issue on this block id get one whether you go 302 based or 351 based and never worry again. 363 (8.2 Deck) will want a 205-225 esp na and will make every bit of the power you want and then some with the right cam and compression. A 363 will make power just the same as your stock block 400 would. If i took you for a ride in my car and didnt tell you it was 302 based you wouldnt no the diff. It makes over 500ftlbs of torque just passed 3100 rpm to give you an idea.
2. Other internals with either block- 1-2000
3. Trans- 2100-4200 ( either A5, Tk0600 or one from Liberty gears, still same tranny though)
4. Intake - around 820
5. AFR 205- 2100
6. Cam- 200 Custom grind billet core cam is usually around 350 or so plus valve springs locks and retainers puts you at 500ish. Yes they usually have to be changed because the stock AFR springs cant take the ramp rates of a decent cam
7. AFM power pipe- 500 including Maf and filter - Pro M 80 with power pipe is 550-560$
8. 1 3/4 Longtubes- 500
9. X pipe- 500
10. probably another $1300-1500 dollars in other miscellneous

Hey Jeff where are you located? I'd surely like to ride in it and see how it feels. It might sway me. But don't you have a blower? If so without it then just a N/A 363 wouldn't be near your numbers right? That's why I included the miscellaneous $13-1500 for other items I didn't name :)

Help me understand the 363 being an 8.2 because I thought you guys or guys in this thread said the most you can go is 347 with a 302 block?

He has a dart block. Dart 8.2 can go out to around 370+ inches.

Stock 8.2 is limited to 347.

12k-13k worth of plans... haven't even talked about suspension.

I see ALOT of frivolous spending listed there.

gotcha.
What's the cost of the Dart 8.2?

Where is he located? See there would be a difference though because if I went 363 N/A then I surely wouldn't be at his numbers :)

I am considering having even the 400 setup for a blower but highly unlikely because I'd want to use every part that I will have for this setup and I may have to get another powerpipe if I went SC later on right? I say that because ofcourse I can have the 363 setup for a blower and maybe 2-4 years I might get one. I think I'd surlely be happy with 400 + HP on the low side doing a 400. I can say that because even on good days my 302 pulled real good and strong at that's just at 300 Hp for over 10 years :)
