Hello everybody.

I have searched and searched, but couldn't find anyone talking about my specific issue.

I have an 01 GT.

I do not have the Mach 460 sound package.

But I do have the triangular pillar speakers on my doors.
(Ebay)

They never sounded quite right because of the Ohms.

The plan was always to replace the speakers with standard 4-Ohm ones, but I've been searching for hours, and can't find decent aftermarket speakers in that size.

Has anyone managed to find a good pair of 4-Ohm 2.5" speakers for this?

All the threads I've found are full of statements like "you can't upgrade them, cause they are 6-Ohm"

But I have the opposite problem, cause I don't have the Mach 460 wiring, amp, or head unit.

Really, I can work with anything, as long as they arent bigger than 2.5".

Thanks.

Just want to share with anyone else who is interested.

After a lot of searching, I found that some BMW's also have 2.5" speakers.

Found a place that sells aftermarket sound systems for BMW's.

Contacted them, and wouldn't you know it, they carry 4-Ohm 2.5" speakers.

http://bavsound.com

I will be ordering a pair next week.

I'll post back my results.

Got the speakers from bavsound.com.

They were a little too small.
(Better than being too big)

Was able to glue in place without much effort, and they sound great.

They are 25 watt RMS, and 4-Ohms.

I'd prefer something more powerful, but I doubt anything better exists in this size.

Definitely worth it, if you have the mach 460, and want to replace your head unit.

Or in the case where you don't have the mach 460, and just added the speakers like I did.

I have a GT w/o mach stereo. Cloth seats and an auto (only option I assume). It looks bare w/o the mach 460 tweeters on top of the doors by the mirror.

I would have just done a set of component speakers and put the tweeter in the mach location. Great place for sound quality. Glad you figured it out though.
