My friend has a 2000 Mustang V6, 5 speed. It had some hesitation starting a few times. But came to a light and went to put it in gear and it cut off. Lights and everything turns on but it gives a click but won't start. Could it be the starter? We charged the battery at the auto store, but wondering if the battery could be that bad that it's not strong enough to start the car...Please Help me. Thanks

This is a pet peeve of mine. Isn't this problem a "no crank"?

Just a click means it's the starter.
If it quit the instant it was put into gear, then it's possible the transmission or motor is locked up. However this could easily be ruled in/out by turning the motor over by hand.

But seriously. Always start with the basics before moving up to more expensive possible causes. Make sure that the battery, battery terminals, and alternator are in tip top shape. Are the battery terminals CLEAN and tight?

WHERE does the click come from? The relay box by the battery or from the starter?

+1 on testing to see if the voltage at the starter solenoid when attempting to crank.
