I recently purchased a restored 1965 mustang coupe and was looking to put a new set of wheels on it to bring out the style a but more. The current tires at 13" but I believe 14" we're also standard for that year. Any advice on where I can go for a complete wheel and tire package for a 1965? Probably would go to 15" wheels if they would fit this model. Tire rack.com did not have anything for a 65. Thanks in advance oft the help!

Usually 13s came on a 64 1/2 . 65-66 had 14 s . Wheel openings are fairly small so a large tire will have clearance and rubbing problem with out modifying the wheel lips .It's been a while since i put tires on a 65-66 so i do not remember what size will fit .

You can run your vin number through Vin decoder and it will tell you 64 1/2 or 65 . I think Stang-Aholics Restorations has it on the web site

I'm planning a 1966 coupe build in my head, and this is the wheel I'm going with: View attachment 111923

I got the size from the delivery sheet from one of the original 1966 FIA racecars.

There are more places to get them.

I never order tires through the internet. What I do is go to a local tire shop I trust and have them order and put them on the wheels I provide. That way, for a slight up-charge, they make sure I get the right tire. And I'm talking literally a few bucks more a tire.

Thanks they are very cool ! the issue I am having is finding nice rims in a 4 lug pattern. My 65 is still a 4 lug version.

Look what I found: A guy on the
a guy on the Classic mustang parts buy, sale, trade on Facebook has something for sale, dirt cheap, that might fit the bill.

4 lug 14's are very rare.

i have never seen a 4 lug 15.

i would not run larger than 7" wide rims with 4 3/4" backspace.

they make 4 to 5 lug adapters. i would not use them.

one way is to switch your suspension over to v8 5 lug which is very expensive or find used rims as shown above.

Converting to 5 lug should cost you less than $1000. And part of that is going to a dual bowl disc brake system, something you should do anyway for safety and ease of maintenance. A CSRP front disc brake plus 5 lug conversion will run from $525-$700 depending on bells and whistles (they make '65-'66 V8 spindles now). You should be able to find the correct rear axle for $200 - $300, which should be in good enough condition to run as is at that price.

Thanks for all the help! I installed a wheel tire package from mustangs unlimited 15" with 4" BS and 65R15- 205's. No issues at all and creates a great look!
