Power Window Not Working?

Well, my passenger side window is not rolling up with either switch, it's done this to me two times before. And then it started working after each time, this time it is down and will not go up.

How can I get my window up?

Funny they always go down huh. Lol
Remove your door panel and unbolt the motor from the door. Then you can manually pull up the window. Then bolt the motor back in place to hold the glass up until you get a replacement.

Been there done it. Lol

Try both switches at the same time. Got mine to go up that way once.

You probably need some new switches. The Dorman ones at Autozone worked for me, but I warn you that they are pretty low quality.

A window motor that only works in one direction is usually a switch problem. Start by removing the passenger side switch and clean the contacts.

Sometimes the motor gets stuck, take the panel off, take it off the gear and push the switch and see if it turns on, if it does, just bolt it all back up and you are good, if not you may need a new motor or switch.

I have the same problem. Before I spend $150 on new motors I'm going to check continuity/power at the switches, right after the switches, and at the motors. I'll try removing the switches and cleaning the contacts too.

I replaced the 3 nylon inserts in the passenger window the other night and cleaned everything out but it didn't help. So it's either got to be the motor or the switch.

Well, the day after I posted this I went out to roll up my window, and BAM it worked...
I kinda wonder if my motor just gets stuck when it's all the way down... I've been leaving the window about a inch up.

A completely dead window doesn't make me think it's a bad window motor, rather a bad switch, or wiring connection. A bad window motor will usually make some attempt at movement.

If it happens again, try manually jumping the wires to see if has any effect. It's not uncommon for a window switch to go bad. The sporadic operation has me believing more and more that this was the problem.

Could be wiring issues in the door jamb as well. When the doors are opened and closed all the time the wiring flexes and can eventually break. Next time it don't work try opening the door and seeing if it works then. Ive seen this happen a few times and the fix is to solder in a new wire through the door jamb.

So as a follow up, I removed my switches and cleaned up the 5 copper terminals on the back of each switch. Windows work all the time now.

All I used was a piece of 150 grit sandpaper and just cleaned them up until they were shiny again, popped them back in and I'm in business!

Boostfrk,

I've done that too. They work great for a little while, but it doesn't last. They get re-oxidized very quickly and will fail you at the worst time. Dorman switches aren't great, but they are less than $10 a piece at Autozone and will last longer than the cleaning method.

Swabbing the terminals with a littel dielectric grease will help extend their life a little, but I agree with 91TwighlightGT. Its only a matter of time before they fail again. I wasted my time with the window switches on my F150 (a common issue) before just breaking down and buying new ones.

I have the same thing going on. The passenger side switch goes up and down on both doors the driver side window don't go up or down and the unlock switches on both won't work either. What could be the issue?

Thank you for your re-write; now it is much clearer.

Power Window tips & tricks

Motor removal & replacement

Remove the door mounted speaker & the upholstery panel to gain access to the motor. There are 3 screws (5/16" hex head, I think) that secure the motor in place. Remove them and the motor comes out without any problems. Once you remove all the screws from the motor, and it falls away from the gear teeth on the arm for the glass, the glass will move up and down. You may need a helper to hold the glass once the motor screws are out, since the gear on the motor holds the glass from sliding up or down

Motor interchange
The motor is the same for left side or right side, only the gearboxes are different. If you can't find the complete assembly for the side you want, you can get either side and use the old gearbox on the new motor.

The window motor gearbox has 3 plastic rollers that are a safety clutch to prevent possible injury if the window is rolled up while something or someone is hanging out the window. The plastic rollers will often disintegrate into chunks of plastic and the window will no longer roll up or down. The motor runs, but the window does not move or only move a little.

The Help! section of your local auto parts store will have the replacement plastic rollers.

Follow this link to fix your door lock actuator problems

You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – http://get.adobe.com/reader/

http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/attachments/door-lock-actuator-fix-pdf.88290/

Stuck with door lock actuators that don't work and don't want to pay the $50+ for a new one? Tried the junkyard ones and found that they last six months and freeze up?

A new actuator for less than $7. Fix one side for $20, do both sides for only $28. I don't sell parts, I don’t make any money off of the upgrade, I just tell you how to do it cheaply and easily.

By the way, I am still using the same $4 actuators I bought in 2002 and this is the second Mustang I have installed them in! Beat that with your fancy replacements!

My drivers window started working intermitanly and I took the motor out, tore it down and cleaned the armature . Worked for a while and quit again . So I bit the bullet, ordered a new motor from Rock and now it works just fine. Replace your motor.
