Hello people of the classic mustangs forums. Im usually in the fox body forums ive been here a few times, but my dad has a bunch of mustangs from 66-67. Most of them are in the shop getting restored but we had a question. He has a 66' fastback in the shop getting restored into a gt350r replica. The question is did the gt350r's have the side scoops? We have seen many pics that have it and many that dont, they already put it on, but were wondering if we should keep it on or take it off... so the question, is did the 66' gt350r's have side scoops?

And heres some pics cause i know everyone loves pictures... I will tell you guys something hilarious about the restoration. The shop that works on the car is always busy so they havent worked on the car in a long time, but now they started working on it again. But what is hilarious about it is they just put the hood scoop on and they put it on BACKWARDS!! haha like a cowl hood. My dad was so pissed when he saw it! Now they have to take it off and do it all over again, what a waste of time, we felt kind of bad cause they spent all that time doing it and now they have to do it all over again. Were palning on having it done in less then a year.

HAHAHA!!

I don't believe the '65 GT 350R had the side scoops originally. The scoops showed up in '66. However, these were race cars and were frequently modified, and many people added the brake cooling scoops later. Since you're building a replica anyway, I think the decision-maker should just be whether you like them or not.

P.S. If you decide to go with them, make sure the shop puts the opening forward :rlaugh:

The 65 GT350Rs has brake scoops under the floorboard. The first 65 R model #5R001 had a side scoop on the left side only and it was initialy used for a rearend fluid cooler which later proved to not be needed and was disconnected but the scoop remained.

There were only 3 1966 R models produced and I would assume they had the side scoops since the street cars did and it would make sense that the mod started on the race model and made it to the street car although the opposite could be true. It is hard to tell since I find no documentation of 66 R models in any of my resources.

I say use them and be happy.
