My 98's temp gauge does not work correctly/at all. When I bought the car, the gauge would sit below the L, and eventually rise into the gauge. My first thought was, maybe the gauge is bad, so I swapped the temp/fuel gauge unit from another 98 in a junkyard. From then on, it would always sit beyond the H. Just today I bought a new temp sensor(non Ford), and now it has gone back to sitting below L but it never moves.
Side note: two days after I bought it, I had to replace the lower intake gaskets and so most of the external coolant system was taken apart, and I broke the other temp sensor and replaced it with a non Ford part
