I have to drive my mustang this winter I have no choice in the matter.
my question is is there any thing I can do to prevent the Minnesota winter from destroying my fox short of rhino lining it?

Yeah, true. That or used motor oil, but it's even messier than grease.

On my old truck I mixed used oil with a little diesel, put it in a garden sprayer and sprayed it all over the frame and undercarriage. Was easier to apply then brushing on grease but was messy as all hell.

Well, the idea with putting grease on the undercarriage is that it not only repels water but attracts dirt, giving you an extra layer of protection. Body parts won't benefit from this as well...the grease will hold up for awhile but eventually it will wash off. You're better off trying your best to repair the rust and painting the area.
