Got a 99 GT Automatic, started to notice that when pulling out from a stop the transmission has a whining sound to it. Some times you can hear it at a stop light idling. Also seems to have picked up a vibration in third and at cruising speeds. Thought the vib was the u joints so changed them this weekend and same thing ...Any ideas

whines from a automatic are mostly caused by worn planetary gears or the front pump. if so when the pan is dropped to clean and change the oil you might find metal filings in the oil and stuck to the magnet

you can flush a auto trans, with a few methods but what I mean is if you find metal in the pan when it is dropped for a service your heading to a shop for a full rebuild,
whines in my 50 years as a dealer auto tech mostly came from worn out internal hard parts such as planetary gears, pumps. convertors .slips are from worn or burnt clutches and bands sticking or stuck valve body valves
