Widest Tire For 19x8.5 Gt/cs Wheels?

I picked up a 2013 GT/CS last weekend (LOVE the car), but would really like to throw on some wider tires when it comes time to replace the current ones. Right now it has 245/45/19, but I'd really prefer something a little wider like 265 or 275.

Does anyone have any idea or experience with 8.5" wide wheels? And should it be 35, 40, or 45?

My previous wheels (18x9" FR500's) worked fine with 285/35, even tho I usually ran 265/35 and 275/35. I just figured with as narrow as the 265's looked on a 9" wide wheel, they *should* work fine on an 8.5" wide wheel.

I did use the search feature, but the thread I found never had an answer.

255/40-19s will definitely fit. They are probably the largest that will fit correctly. Of course you could mount a wider tire on to the rim, people do it all the time, I have in the past. However putting a tire on a rim that is not as wide as the tire specs call for can cause the sidewall will bow out, flex excessively and affect handling. It's not really safe. But like I said people do it all the time. I ran in to a guy at a car show with 305/30-19s on the rear of his 2012 Boss with the factory rims (19x9.5) and he says he has no issues.
