The 5.0L has not been track tested in over a year, nor been to a dyno. Decided about one week before the track rental to accumulate the necessary parts to get it race ready. Had a few studs that required replacement in the front rotors, the front end needed an alignment, and the upper intake needed bolted back on the stock 302 short block. Almost did not make the alignment appointment due to an electrical gremlin, however, we found the culprit and rectified the issue quickly.

After sorting through launch rpm settings, shock adjustments, tire pressure tweaks, shift points, and few other variables the untouched/non-flycut N/A 302 short block, H/C/I eclipsed the previous best E.T. and MPH package. A back up run .003 slower validated the new best.

Here's the incrementals and a vid of the two quickest passes of the day.

whats the heads cam and intake combo??

thats real fast. almost hard to believe, since its a stock 9:1 compression 302, granted its real light (2830 w/ driver in the vid description)

there has to be something going on here, not just a "stock 302 with HCI" thats wicked fast for just a stock compression 302shortblock
if not running a power adder then it has to have some race fuel with a butt load of timing and alot of RPM??

awesome runs, but post some more details on the combo!!

92GreenGT: I have an AEM for it, just have not been serious about that aspect, until now. For the upcoming season the plan is to get a wideband in there and get the AEM up and running.

dr59l: all motor.

Foxfan88: T.W. heads, I would rather keep the cam specs undisclosed, Holley SMII. No power adder, nothing but Sunoco 93 in the tank, 14 degrees of initial timing, around 6,500 rpm shift points. Been tweaking the combo for about 5 years now. Makes about 367 SAE rwhp on a dynojet dynometer.

i believe it i have a friend with a notch and a stock bottom end (250,000mi on it) tf stage 2 cam, anceint tfs heads shaved and ported, tubular gt40 intake, lt's,and flows and turns 6.80's in the 1/8th thats our closest track, no 1/4 within 200mi luanches at 5,000 how bout u?

hollywoodstang: The short block is circa 1993 (hypereutectic) and has not been dissasembled e.g., original rod/main bearings, 5/16" rod bolts, original ring set.

riceslayer302: The front supension consists of coil-overs, and QA1 adj. struts. The rear has an assortment of Baseline Suspension products and QA1 adj. shocks. An anti-roll bar is also employed.

25thmustang: The 60' incremental was spot on when compared to previous passes. I am sure there is some wheel spin there in the launch just to keep the engine from bogging. The 1-2 shift was not as violent as normal, so, I am not sure what to attribute that to, perhaps it was skating the tires a little on that 1-2 or the clutch may not be hitting as hard.

question is how much are they shaved? what cc r the combustion chambers to bring up the compression? thats what happened with my friends. even so its bad. wonder what it would run if u didnt gut it. mine is fully stock minus a shifter, a cage, and a bottle of juice (as for gutting it out)

nice times joe , is that really a stick shift ?cause it sounds like an auto to me ??? what was you fuel pressure at the top of 3rd gear ,cause my car is at 52 lbs by then, do you think i should raise it ?

The block is not decked and the heads are not shaved. Static compression ratio is 9.0:1 It would trap less mph and have more e.t. in it if it weighed more.

It's one of those hybrid manuals, you know the kind:D Fuel pressure at the top of third at 6,423 rpm is 41.68 lbs. 52 lbs. in your application is absolutely dead nuts, thank you for informing me about that pertinent parameter.:leaving:

woahooow. Amazing, thats really fast. Congrats.
There will always bee some discussion when someone goes fast. Good luck with It. :nice:

Ps, this Is nearly like Evan Smiths Stocker, Horsepower compared to weight, nearly the same as yours? :

I "think" his example at one point weighed just about 3,000 and made in the neighborhood of 363 to the tires. His car is the epitome of efficiency and I've followed that project from it's inception.

Wow, thats amazing. How did you get the weight down so low. My car weighs a little less than 3000 now, and I figure I can get it to 2800 with a set of welds, gettting rid of the sway bar, pull the rear seats out, and going o a FR manual rack. But I figured that would be about it for a car that still sees the street. Did you have to pull any major saftey stuff out of the car to get down that low. Ive got a ton of other things to sort out yet bet getting rid of weight seems cheep right now.

Just amazing!
