    I had a similar problem but it was because I didn't have the valve lash set correctly. It took several attempt before I got it right.

    Here are the pics Soft copper tube Flange tool I added a heat sock around the tube to protect my rubber hoses buy I think you can see the result. The copper will change color due to the excessive heat but thats it.

    I don't know if I would use silicone. I fabbed one out of soft copper tubing and a flange kit from the local hardware store. Worked great been on now for two years. Let me know if you wanna picture.
