    Emissions

The threads are clogged up. Very common and nearly impossible to clear unless you have the heads off. Exhaust cement might be the next best option.

    Emissions

I removed my smog pump, egr, and cats. Put Explorer heads and intake on, got it running nice, and passed emissions testing NO PROBLEM and this include the pipe sniffers. No tuning, using stock ECM, no monkeying with timing. Most of the smog equipment 'covers up' for when things aren't running...

Valve Clatter; No Rocker To Pushrod Contact

Yup- but if youre getting 3 turns if preload, it means the pushrods are too long (but not my much) so the shims are needed.

Valve Clatter; No Rocker To Pushrod Contact

    Shims under the rocker pedestals.

Valve Clatter; No Rocker To Pushrod Contact

Dayum! 3 turns is a ton, you might have been close to bottoming out the lifter. Factory spec is 3/4-1 turn and that is supposed to put you at the 'midway' point in lifter travel. I recommend no more than 1/4 for best performance personally. Add in some thermal expansion - after a few minutes of...

Valve Clatter; No Rocker To Pushrod Contact

Crazy - wonder how the lifter broke if that's the case ? Maybe you didn't have any preload on the lifter - I've read that without preload you can cause the lifter snap ring to pop out.

Valve Clatter; No Rocker To Pushrod Contact

I dont quite get how you didnt notice which rocker the broken pedestal was from? Regardless, chances are that it is from cyl 4 if the geometry is messed up on it. Not really sure... So compared to other pushrods at base circle that one sits lower ? If so then yah i guess something is up with the...

Valve Clatter; No Rocker To Pushrod Contact

Oh also, how long did you run the motor for ?? Did you just idle it, or actually rev it a bit ? After a head swap if the lifters have sat for along time, they will need to be pumped up. So you can hook up a special bit to a power drill and turn the oil pump through the distributor shaft, or just...

Valve Clatter; No Rocker To Pushrod Contact

Why on earth would you not want to know WHY it went bad ?!? Thats so key - I'm assuming that the OP reused the lifters that were in before the head swap, and they were fine prior to the swap ?? So that means either a) Something in the swap caused the lifter to go bad - replacing them would only...

Dynomax Vt Mufflers On Fox ?

I called Dynomax and they recommend the 17159 So i bought them, had them installed. I like them alot - the drone is like 10% of what it was, maybe less. Overall much nicer to drive the car now. Still sounds beastly when I push it up in the 4-6k rpm range.

    Engine Misfire After H/c/i Swap

Sounds good, I hate it too when issue threads go unresolved, ideally I'd like to see every thread end in either "Fixed it by doing a, b, then c" or "Got sick of this crap, sold the car" Makes it so much easier for others to find possible resolutions to similar sets of symptoms.

    Fuel Pump Problem

Yup, it just primes prior to starting when key first goes to run position, but as soon as you are at start/run position during/after start, the pump runs constantly. You just don't normally notice it because of exhaust noise. Probably some other issue causing your rich condition.

    Blown Heater Inlet Hose

It's the standard replacement water pump. I picked up new hoses from napa and the guy said they are gates brand which are supposed to be the best. I'm planning to replace just the one unless I find others that look bad, basically return the rest, but I have them on hand for now. My main concern...

    Blown Heater Inlet Hose

That's the thing, it's a very new hose in fact. It just looks old from getting dirty from the leak and then getting blown apart makes it look alot older too. Should a pump build so much pressure that hoses explode? The car doesn't have any overheating issues.

    Blown Heater Inlet Hose

I noticed a mild coolant leak a couple weeks back, and traced it to the hose going from the metal heater tubes to the inlet of the heater core. Tightened the clamp up good, and leak was solved ! Just tonight driving, I got on it hard, like 6K rpm and the hose exploded, lost coolant, had to call...

Engine Current And Future Build Questions

You do need to shim then, for sure especially with a head/cam change. If you run too much lifter preload, it can kill your top end, like completely kill it. Shim kits from Ford give you 0.020" and 0.040" shims, I have ones for 0.06" and 0.010" also that let's you hit the sweet spot alot closer...

    Engine Misfire After H/c/i Swap

Makes sense, just don't get sucked into the trap of replacing every part. Assume that any part that was fine prior to the swap is fine now. For sure that points to a misfire on the driver side, now of course if it's distributor/coil related it could be happening to both sides. Are you running...

Engine Current And Future Build Questions

How are your lifters setup ? IMO the single best 'free' gain in a stock or modified 5.0 is to shim the rockers properly to bring the pre-load down to a minimum. Bet you'll make power to 6K if you set it up right. I know I'm selling the shims on ebay so it may seem like a sales pitch, but trust...

    Engine Misfire After H/c/i Swap

Well your symptoms still point to spark in my opinion. It idles fine, runs fine under light load which means your fuel system is at least capable of delivering the right amount of fuel under some (or all) conditions. Usually bad injectors are bad, and if your injectors, pump etc was fine before...
