What problems exist if your piston does not come all the way to the top?

it doesn't "hurt" anything. it will reduce your compression ratio, and give more p/v clearance, but no actual hurt. -steve

    Gear Drive?

you don't have a knock sensor so that doesn't matter. are they easy? don't know for sure but i can't see it being harder than a timing chain swap. what made you decide to use gears? -steve

Performance Advice Needed... Any Thoughts Welcome!

yep, we need to know your budget and performance goals. if it were me in the same situation i'd probably go carbed with new h/c/i. which ones will depend on your goals. -steve

Intakes designed to be smaller than heads??

good thread smockdoiley. i've noticed this too but never bothered to inquire further. i could be WAY off but i think it's done to promote mid-range power, also it could give room for the air to "compress" just behind the valve when it closes. ie. air rushing through intake, reaches the head...

    good ol t-5

it's really a gamble. i've been running a 4cyl t-5 for quite a while now with no probs, but i'm mostly stock and don't run any type of sticky tire. -steve

best intake manifold for mostly stock 5.0?

agreed. i really like the afr's but i'm not prepared to rebuild them every 50k miles. i'll probably go with something else *when* i do a head swap. -steve

    Best tool for cutting plenum??

look out!.... i'm coming in for a threadjack ;) anybody know shortening the stock intake would do on a stock engine. i know in theory it should move increase the hp and decrease the tq, but has anyone done this?? -steve

17" wheels & brakes for early Fox Body Mustang

FWIW- almost any, if not any, factory ford wheel with center cap that *covers the lugs* should work. cobra r's etc. with exposed lugs will not. -steve

My rear brakes still lock up before the fronts...

easy guys, stang2birds is knowledgable and helps people out a lot on here. i'm sure he has a reasoning for his response, besides, we all make mistakes at times. smockdoiley- the bike is a great example. why else would they put the front brake as your main unit. -steve

gm, ford, gm, ford, can't make up my mind

have you considered puttin' a 5.0 or 351 in your current stang? what kind of shape is it in. btw- i've had minimal probs, probably none that i didn't cause. -steve

optimal timing * and fuel pressure for my setup?

    i'm a stoopid..... :D -steve

Dont laugh at me for asking this....

you're absolutely correct, it is all in the tune. i too have seen cat-less and airpump-less modded stangs pass emmissions. and i also agree there are bigger factors than a few muscle cars running around. and again, i agree that good high flow cats are costly, maybe too costly:shrug: i...

Dont laugh at me for asking this....

Highbredcloud- mind if i ask your name? i hate using screen names. i agree that it's ridiculous that the trucks/buses/machines etc are exempt as they are the largest polluters. however, mustangs with offroad pipes do compound the problem. let's face it, even catted vehicles pollute too...

    yes or no for gears?

the diff is night and day. you'll be rowing the gears like silken lauman ;) -steve

Dont laugh at me for asking this....

it's like this: we all want more power, some just aren't willing to sacrifice the environment to get it. as i see it, i'm doing enough damage to the air just driving a gas pig, why compound that by removing the emmissions equipment? i know what you're thinking, and i too love to have more...

optimal timing * and fuel pressure for my setup?

it's impossible to tell you what optimum is without a wideband dyno-tune. if you're looking for guesses... 14* advance 38-40psi -steve

    aftermath of my 5spd swap

have you only worked on pre 87 cars? maybe they're different  on my car and ALL stock stangs i've worked on they employ the plastic quadrant (self adjusting at the pedal) and there is just a ball on the end of the cable to seat in the fork. -steve

    Rev Limiters

i believe the factory rev limiter kicks in at 6250rpm. any good aftermarket ignition should have what you need, or i believe you can adjust the factory limiter with a chip -stev
