    Pushrod question

Preload is the amount of depression you are putting on the plunger of a hydraulic lifter. Ford allows roughly between .050" and .080" for a quiet valvetrain. More racy application want less. If you put too much, you "may" bottom out the lifter and make the hydraulic properties of the lifter...

Got RPM II intake! now what Heads?

With a budget of 700-800 bucks, you're not going to get into any decent aluminum head unless it's used. To beat a dead horse... Without all the details on your combo, you're just asking people to pick lottery numbers for you... Ed

    Pushrod question

There's the real answer... :nice: A .010" cut on the heads shouldn't make that much of a difference in the noise of the valvetrain. If it's noisy, you have a dead or dirty lifter. Ed

HCI 302 setup inside. 320whp attainable?

If you emailed looking for a camshaft without filling out the Cam Form, it may never get answered. I can't work with no information.... As for no phone number being available, there is a reason for it not being listed. If I were to spend all day talking on the phone, nothing would ever be...

HCI 302 setup inside. 320whp attainable?

Peak numbers are great for bragging on the internet... Great average power and torque is what wins the race... There are plenty of 302-310 combos we've done with over 320 RWHP but it's the "mean" numbers we get from idle to redline that make them faster than the rest! ;) Ed

    Pro-Comp Heads???

There have been quite a few people who had purchased them when they showed up on our shores. Most spent twice what they figured on just to get them "decent". Everything from porousity problems to incorrectly located push rod holes and header bolt locations. Buyer beware! Most deals that...

    Best Heads for this combo

There's usually some Y303 or similar aluminum FMS heads on special at most Ford Motorsport dealers. Forte's Parts connection, Downs Ford and quite a few others. They'll make good power on a budget and take 45 pounds off the nose of the car to boot. Ed

    My 351W heads...whatcha think?

Lightweight Foxes can run mid to high twelves with a stock engine and the right driveline and exhaust peripherals. Bob Cosby and a bunch of other people proved that almost ten years ago. If twelves are the goal, leave the stock E7 heads on there and play with the chassis! Also... where are...

Piston to valve clearance on aftermarket heads

You are right about the duration being the key to P/V issues but the valves are not closest to the piston at TDC. They are ususally closest anywhere from 5* to 15* away from TDC. There is also the "edges" of the valve heads in relationship to the piston top/relief and how they are configured...

    My 351W heads...whatcha think?

That's so wrong it's funny. With smaller camshafts than yours, AFR 165 combos have made over 345 RWHP with EFI and more with ONE carb. When coupled to a set of 185 heads and the right peripherals, we're seeing even more! Like I stated... the AFR combo is whacked and totally screwed up if your...

    My 351W heads...whatcha think?

Guess you missed this part of my post... Besides... those 35 year old heads will require a ton of rework to get them correct. Guides need replacing, valve seats are probalby worn to $hit and may even need hardened exhaust seats installed to run unleaded fuel. Then there's the new valves...

Piston to valve clearance on aftermarket heads

Steve Turner is right on the money... Only two cylinder heads with 2.020 intake valves are able to clear stock pistons. Trick Flow Twisted Wedge and Canfield 170 street heads. Even then, it's still a "must check" for piston to valve when you install them. What most people don't realize is...

    My 351W heads...whatcha think?

That theory that iron heads make more power than identical aluminum heads has been disproven in real world testing. This exact topic was recently covered in a few threads over at Hardcore50.com and another very informative Ford website. Also.... As for the ported DO0E heads outpowering the...
