    Interesting cam break-in

Current thinking is to vary RPM, but never let it drop below a certain level. (1500-2000 depending on who or what company you are talking with.) Also if your cam kit did not come with an oil additive (or the company doesn't sell one, Both Crane and Comp do) add a can of GM EOS (Engine Oil...

    390 In a 65?

I'm with D on this one. Now I'll give you that a truck 390 has dismal compression even new (8.2:1) but Station Wagon MOTOR? WTF? Maybe this wagon: http://hometown.aol.com/larry33k/BATTLESTAR.html 390 LEAST Desireable? That honor probably falls to a 332 or 360, NOT the 390. Of course...

    How accurate is Desktop Dyno2000?

It is not too bad IF you can get the airflow of your heads and enter your camshaft. Dyno Sim (the new one) seems to have much better tools and has flow files for some aftermarket heads (AFR/ED) as well as many camshaft profiles. It is comparitively VERY expensive though. I think they are...

The one thing you would have done different.

I wouldn't have crashed my 64.5 late at night on a deserted road at well above the posted speed. :notnice: I also wouldn't have done it with cookies from my girlfreind on the seat for dad to see, when I wasn't supposed to have been to see her. :owned: It was a LONG time ago.

    help me pick a carb...

Dyno Sim says your max airflow with the stock cam is 422.9 CFM. Jumping the cam to an E303 raises it to 499.5 CFM. Changing the heads to ED heads and the E303 goes to 538.8 cfm. If it was me I'd buy a a 525 at a minimum. If you have any further modification plans take them into...

    help me pick a carb...

I think its a bit of an unrealistic expectation to buy a carb, stick it on and have it run 100% correctly out of the box with no tuning. I think a lot of people expect that and get disapointed. I think Holley's are great carbs and the SA series is very nice if you can get past the finish or...

    Help with camshaft recommendations.

Although none of us, me included, should be making absolutes Generally for power adders, you want to minimize overlap. Tightening the separation angle increases overlap. What is "best" depends to a great extent on the type of power adder, supercharger and nitrous cams generally have...

    Rebuilt 390, Need your help/opinions please……

The heads/springs are spec'ed for .600 max lift. They are essentually Crane 99893 springs. I haven't heard that the guides were junk. People say that they would be better with proper spring seats under the springs. Keith Craft buys them bare and uses better stuff to assemble them and...

Anyone know where to get these clips?

Got a bag or two of those, don't work too well here. Looks like AMK might have something close. They have .32 X 3.18 and .26 X 5.0 or 6.69 These are .26 X about 3.25 (hard to flaten it completely out) This one had 26 - 4601 on it.

    Rebuilt 390, Need your help/opinions please……

 The only thing about a 400 and a 390 that is close spec wise is the valve sizes (possibly). In fact that is the problem with Comp's High Energy/Magnum line, they are cookie cutter cams. It might "work", there are much better choices though. BTW. a stock converter is...

Do not take my word for it. Take the part number of virtually ANY FE cam and search it on: http://www.network54.com/Forum/74182 I bet you will find someone who has run it. (With it correctly installed.)

"Historic" will be out of pocket.............

I am sure this will win me a lot a friends here, but: I appreciate Historic’s post; they are frequently informative, and well spoken. Correct me if I am wrong but his car wins races too. That is the kind of reply I would want, if I asked about suspension. I got no dog in the fight, and do...

Here are the piston specs: * Compression ratio: 10.00:1 (67.1cc heads), 9.91:1 (68cc heads), 9.62:1 (71cc heads), 9.36:1 (74cc heads) Popular experiance has shown the great majority of factory heads spec'ed in the 68-72cc range are actually 71-72 cc. It is rare to find one that is 68cc...

You might want to check that 280H out throughly before purchase. The FE Forum had a few people displeased with it recently. Comp doesn't have a great many fans of their Hydro cams in FE's. FWIW
