    Autoweek 05 Review

Mane Street USA: Original Pony Gallops into 21st Century In general, a positive review of the car. Some notable quotes. On the live axle Track performance The overall impression the article gives is you get what you pay for. But don't expect more from a Mustang, and that's not...

Why Pass 05 and wait for 06??

I'll be willing to bet that no matter how good the live axle handles....you're still going to read in the reviews the same thing that have always been the bane of live axle cars-axle wind-up, wheel hop, and vague rear end. True, it will be tuned out as best it can, but there you are still...

Why Pass 05 and wait for 06??

Exactly. That's a point I've been trying to make for the last 6 months. A lot of you may discount import buyers and cars like the Nissan 350Z etc....but those are the cars that are competing for the same buyers the Mustang is. Ford can't rely on it's core audience forever.

    IRS...

Well...I disagree with your contention that road racing is in decline here in the States. Of course if you were to believe the hacks who follow NASCAR and consider anything coming out of Daytona as sacrosanct, then yeah, you'd think road racing was in a death spiral. The facts point...

Why Pass 05 and wait for 06??

Depends. If you were to believe the Ford PR speak, then you'd think it was a completely new chassis. However, from reading articles about the car and interviews, I'm led to believe that the S197 was the starting point and then modified to meets the Mustang's needs (i.e. ditching the SLA for...

    IRS...

I don't think that may be the case. I think Ford is overstating the differences between the Lincoln LS chassis and the Mustang chassis. It's also been stated that the IRS was developed alongside the live axle (though I'm more inclined to believed that the IRS was developed primarily, then the...

    IRS...

That would be fine if Ford plans on shipping the GT-R to Europe to run on FIA licensed and F-1 billiard smooth tracks. None of which exist in the U.S. except for the road course at IMS. Most tracks in the U.S. are woefully underdevelopment and have reputation for being bumpy, uneven, and brutal...

Why Pass 05 and wait for 06??

My thing is...I should be able to get it from the factory. Not have to expend time and money to do it myself...or pay big bucks to have somebody else do it. Plus...there's the reality that you'll have to either wait for somebody to crack up their Cobra to the point they junk it....or hope the...

Why Pass 05 and wait for 06??

Seems to me people are still under the impression that any IRS that would be installed in the 05 Mustang would be a cobbled together hack job like that found in the 1999 to 2004 Cobras. That is simply not the case. All the problems associated with the IRS in the current Cobra has to do with...

Why Pass 05 and wait for 06??

Well....I'm torn...I love the 2005...but I'm dissappointed by the fact it doesn't have IRS. So I'll wait to see what Ford has in the pipeline in terms of Mustang variants....and see if Ford will offer an IRS variant other than the Cobra. Frankly....I don't want to rush out an buy a 2005 GT...

    Why no 6 speed love?

I'm not get into that argument (again  ). I'm resigned to the fact that GT will never have IRS and the drag racers will always get their way at Ford. I do take issue with the fact tha Mustang meant for road racing doesn't get IRS though (the GT-R). Fer chrissakes Ford...if you're...

    Mustang GT-R = Future Cobra?

You'd think if Ford was going to go road racing...they'd at least do it right. Where's John Coletti when you need him.....

    Mustang GT-R = Future Cobra?

Somebody forgot to tell this guy that in racing...form follows function. If that ugly ass rear wing means a few more hundred pounds of downforce and faster cornerning around Sebring or Road America, then it works for me.

    Why no 6 speed love?

Probably for the same reason the Mustang doesn't get any IRS love either..... I.E....People want to keep the Mustang firmly rooted in the 60's.

    Mustang GT-R press pictures"

That's fine for a run of the mill GT for the masses. But for a 40,000 dollar road racing machine...a solid live axle falls way short.
  16. Mach460

    Mustang GT-R press pictures"

You're right...the GT-R is meant for the track.....but why not offer a an IRS. And before you Ford apologists start bringing up cost issues....costs doesn't seem to be stopping those armadas of Porsches in ALMS GT racing.

    Mustang GT-R press pictures"

Hmmmm.... I give it the effort an A+ But the exectuion deserves a C+/B- at best. Why? Well..from reading the press release and seeing what this Mustang seems geared for...I find it awfully curious that the Mustang GT-R is going to be offered to road racers...yet they retain the live axle...

    2006 Boss 302 Mustang?

So if Ford can do the same thing with the Cammer 5.0L and IRS and take the 05 Mustang racing...what would be the problem with using the Boss name?

    2006 Boss 302 Mustang?

Yeah...I doubt we'll see a factory team...but I wouldn't be surprised to see a factory race car in the same mold of the Cobra R's. But like I've said, Saleen is good for a couple of cars, and you can bet Steeda will mix up as well.

    2006 Boss 302 Mustang?

I don't see why not. The SCCA Speed World Challnege is the spiritual successor of the original Trans-Am and is getting a lot of interest from the manufacturers. Even Cadillac is getting into the mix with their CTS-VT race car. But even if Ford itself doesn't race Mustangs, you can bet there sare...
